Prince has followed me around since he was a young pup. If I am in the kitchen he is there and if I go upstairs he immediately follows me up the stairs. He is ALWAYS within 10ft of where I am. I think it's cute, but is this normal, healthy behavior for a 6 month GSD.

Yes, normal.

That is actually good that he is bonded with you. My female is never more than 10 ft away from me if she can help it. You are Prince's pack leader and he respects you.

dmssharkey, That is wonderful, I wanted to make sure it was not some type of insecurity of his end. I am very glad to hear this is normal and a good sign of our bond....thanks for the post  Ruger1

Normal  GOOD     Great!   all the positive behavior you could ask for....NOW

Use it to Your ADVANTAGE

Try all kinds of obedience routines and commands both old and new because he FOLLOWS....try hiding quickly    let him find and reward..... use all your obedience commands in different  places...top of stairs  middle of stairs...IF you have stairs...if not   at the end of hall   middle of hall  using toys,,,strange objects pull out of place.....rearrange furniture in one room for fun and then go in with him and hide of see how he reacts...use it as a great tool.....make up things to do since he FOLLOWS>....good deal...

As others have said, yes, it is absolutely normal for GSD's.  Mine have always wanted to be close at hand...the bright side is that they don't wander as some other breeds are wont to do.

And  what gets me is you let them out to go PLAY and then look up and they are glued to the back door or the fence waiting for ME>..instead of out roaming on my property>>>>>  when I am finally out with them then they go roaming....

Love it that way but they do keep NOSE prints on my doors and my gates pushed in with that intense...WHERE ARE YOU??

Yellowrose and Keith, I can see how he would not be likely to roam..lol...No matter where I am in the yard his little eyes are on me.....peeking through windows and fences....lol....he is soooo cute.

Can't say all GSD's have this instinct, but they are supposed to.
