I plan on doing Malacha's BH in a couple of months so wanted to share the progress we have made since he was 3mo old, he is now 14mo. I am very happy with everything he is showing me. I still need to work on things but feel very confident he will be ready.

He looks good; assuming you can maintain his focus without the ball, you shouldn't have any problem getting through the BH together.

Denise,
He looks awesome!  You are doing a great job with him.  You will have no worries with the BH.

Thanks guys. Keith if you notice the ball is in my left hand behind him, he is not focused on the ball and does not need the ball to keep focus. I have the ball in my pocket, under my arm or in my right hand, never in the same place so he never knows where it is at.

Of course I noticed it is in your left hand but he knows it's there somewhere.  Just make sure to proof him without it and you'll be fine.

I've recently been having an issue with my 6 month old, Axel, in which he is anticipating the next move in a sequence before the command is givien...specifically, not waiting for the fuss command after a recall.  The simple solution to the problem is to change it up so he isn't sure what's coming next.  The same holds true for the reward.  I need to know that he will follow commands whether or not there is a treat or ball involved and will not shut down if there is not so sometimes now he gets a reward and sometimes he only gets praise.

Looking good Denise.  When training the recall I will often not have the dog finish.  As keith mentioned, switch things up so they are really not sure what is next.  Teach the commands, not the pattern, and all is good.

Thanks. That was his second recall ever from that far along with the finish. I always reward him for the front and hardley add the finish but needed to see where he was at. I know to always mix it up and always do so. That was his first time going that long with little reward. I totally understand where Keith is coming from.

Denise,
You've done very well with Malacha.  I have always enjoyed your videos as you progress your training with him.  I particularly like his turns.  You will sail through the BH no problemo :)

Nice work.  I also love those turns.  How did you train that?  Although I am happy with Molly's heeling, her turns are not that great.  Have been working on tightening them up and getting her to be quicker, but your turns are perfect and completes the entire picture.

Good luck on your bh.  You will do great!

Thanks again guys. I really did not train the turns Kai just did it on his own as a puppy so I just reinforced it.
