I don't know if it was the moon or just breeding time, but last night the coyotes were especially active. The dogs and I went out when I noticed a lot of shadows stalking the cattle, and it was interesting to see the difference in my Pyr and GSD. The Pyr chose a spot to lie down and scan the darkness, but my GSD was always on his feet sniffing and patrolling the perimeter.

Nice pictures. I had a female that hated coyote!! I knew one was near by the kind of bark she has.I had 20 acres of cornfield behind my place that they would be out in. One night when my male GSD was tied out he was barking like crazy.I went out to find 2 coyote just sitting on the edge of the grass of my yard and the corn field watching my dog.One was laying down and the other sitting behind the one.I went and got my dog in quick!! A few times I would go out there with a flash light and see all the glowing eyes pearing back at me.Would make for a scary movie.

They will draw a dog in to their territory, a dog is a meal to them.  We have them too. My neighbor says there is about 3 -4 different families around. Just as long as they eat mice and try to keep our ever growing deer population down, I do not mind. They have not taken a chicken meal as of yet, they stay in the barn at night.
Always,
Cee

I love the pictures. We have a pretty big group of Cyoties out here, they make me a little unnerved as I have baby goats right now. My chickens live in a strong walled coop for now, I hope some day to get them free ranging ( my last free range chickens where dumb and flew into the back yard to be eaten by doggies).

It's way beyond breeding time for Coyotes,
The German Shepherd and the Great Pyrenees have different methods and instincts in regards to dealing with predators.

tHE LAST WEEK HERE IN East Texas across from my property and behind they have been restless and screaming...

I know everyone has  Mules or Donkeys  for the purpose of warding them off... I never let my kids out....but I am fenced completely and do not know if they would come over or maybe under as I have no chickens, geese or the like..no pups would ever be put outside here..we have air conditioned house for that...they scare me

I saw a field with lots of baby donkies or what ever you call them when young..not a farm girl, and I was tempted to stop and inquire as to how much for one and how to care for one.. but  they would present a problem with gsd...probably kill my dogs...they know how to stomp a   canine like a wolf or cayote to death....so  I will sit with  gun loaded...

Intend to only have 3 shepherds shortly so I won't have to worry as much.

No matter where you move in my county , there are cayotes....plenty of them and in the moonlight they are standing on the opening all together  with their heads raised and making lots of noise.

I don't mind coyote. Not affraid of them.Only thing that drives me nuts is that my dogs howl with them when there is a pack in the back of the place at the foot of the mountain. The coyote wouldn't bother the dogs as they are fenced in at night and there are doves in a cage that are an easier meal if they were to come this close. The have plenty of jackrabbits to eat so they aren't starving enough to bother with the dogs.None of the people at the horse farm behind where I am have lost a dog and they are always running free.Kinda wish the coyote would eat the stray dogs since they are always coming on to the property here and go after me and my dogs.

Lav K-9 are you sure your dogs are not responding back in a defensive howl to keep them away from the territory?
