I was browsing about and came across this dog:

www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/122474.html

Wow! Now, I admittedly know very little about working lines, I can usually come across soem familar names but I didn't recognize a thing behind this guy. Can anyone tell me about his lines, and his linebreeding? I'm trying to learn about working lines that are strong structurally, who wants to educate me on this striking dog?

He's seems to be very good dog who has produced well, but he's not super popular or overly common to find in a pedigree (as in, he wasn't overbred and isn't being linebred on, not yet at least). I don't know anything about how he himself worked; from looking at his progeny, it looks like he was bred to to improve conformation without losing working ability. He is very handsome, but notice his picture does have a photoshopped topline.

Linebred on Robby Glockeneck (Ingo Rudingen) through both Verwin and Rocky--very strong, drivey dogs. Verwin is best known for siring Orry vh Antverpa--he produced dogs who won and who produced good producers. Very high prey, very high pain thresholds. Mediocre hip production from what I've seen. Not terrible, but not a hip improver IMO. I bred a DDR female to Olko vh Antverpa; Olko was a very big red sable, nice temperament, liked people.

Stadtfeld kennels is an old kennel that has consistently produced good working dogs who also V rate in conformation. Boomer v Emsbogen was a very good dog, bringing together Harro aus der Lechrainstadt and the G-litter vh Larwin. Gimmy was a good producer, but her brother Gento was better known--produced some tough, tough dogs with bad attitudes; brought some sharpness in from Sagus, combined it with the high pain threshold from Robby Glockeneck.

Thanks so much for the info! I did notice the "polished" shot but thought he was noteworthy nonetheless.

Is there a reason you don't see this line very often? Browsing through his progeny he has some particularly correct daughters, Brigga caught my eye and it looks like she produced well, too.

Maybe b/c he wasn't a big winner or competitor at the BSP or WUSV? This seems to be some good info about him, with a better picture: www.schaeferhunde-sportinfo.de/Deckrueden/Metin_vom_Stadtfeld.htm

Also: www.schaeferhunde-sportinfo.de/Deckrueden/Info_Metin_Uno.htm

Looks like he and brother Uno are full brothers.

ZW 84, looks like he was fast-normal himself.

Christine didn't leave much to add to, but I'll say I concur. Capri (V Capri vom Hagenberg) is a Metin grand daughter. If what she has comes from him, then, well............that's one hell of a dog!

Jenni, that is a very powerful looking girl!

Thanks again for the info, I like to make mental notes of what I like. I am fascinated with the work/show cross, and I want to try it one day, but not before extensive research, as it seems the number of unsuccessful crosses painfully outnumber the successful ones. V rated structure and the ability to produce it is a necessity for me.

I know what you mean KCzaja, I appreciate a nice structure on my workingline dogs too, and better if they are producing it as well. The sires of two of my workingline bitches are V rated and I am hoping that when my girls mature they will also have a good rating (they're young and going through the uglies right now)

Hi Kelly,
Metin was the oldest of a very successful line of litters - this breeding was done 6 times!!! Otto Grasekamp (I have not met him personally) obviously has the same philosophy as I do - that there can be balanced and correctly structured workingline dogs. The conscensus in Germany is that if there are Stadtfeld dogs in the pedigree the anatomy is usually good. Breeders like him (Wannaer Hoehen, Maineiche, Salztalblick, del Lupo Nero, alten Wingertshaus etc. are a few more) believe in the standard and balance. Of course, in Germany and else where, there are people who look for the extreme sport dog drive which often is hard to manage by "normal" people.
Metin has successful younger Stadtfeld brothers like Oktay, Siro and Rayjo who have been used often, but the most known and bred one is Uno vom Stadtfeld. He is now 8 years old and I would have used him too (for a linebreeding on his grandmother Yane) but decided on a different one instead a couple of years ago (Paska Salztalblick). Uno's best known son is Eyko vom Moerfelder Land, trained and titled by Fritz Biehler.
The problem with photos of these dogs is that they are all so obviously photoshopped that it is laughable.
There is no video of Metin which I know of but a few of Uno to see how he really looks, and I suspect that Metin was similar: www.vom-stadtfeld.de/images/movies/movies.htm (you need to click on Schutzdienst on the left side under Uno vom Stadtfeld). It is visible in the video how dark Uno is and that he has a beautiful head with nice bone.
Dogs like that present my ideal of what a GSD is supposed to be. For example, I would love to own this Oktay vom Stadtfeld-daughter: www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/437168.html Isy del Lupo Nero participated in the BSP and the Sieger Show. Her breed survey recommended her under special advantages for her drives and obedience.

I imported a granddaughter of Metin's thru her mothers line Wita von Hagenberg.  Alaska Vom Hagenberg got her V rating in confrormation as well. She is a wonderful dog I have had her now for 3 months. Thanks for the information on Metin. I would post her pic but am having a hard time trying to do that. You can see some pics on our web at www.k9motivation.com
thanks for the info

K9 Motivation....................my import bitch's dam is also Wita. If your girl is anything like her sister (half sister, I'm assuming) you'll have your work cut out for you, but it will be WELL WORTH IT.
