sasha my female always used to eat her own poo it got to the point where as soon as she done it i cleaned it up because if not she would turn around and start eating it we changed her diet to dry food with just raw egg and after a week or so she stoped so it poo must smell like the food they have eaten JMO

My dogs never do, but one of the dogs that came here was on Purina.....very corn based food.....well two of my younger dogs started eating her stools, needless to say we changed that dogs food. I guess it doesn't digest as well and still has the food smell..... Once she switched to what my dogs were eating, the young dogs quit eating it.

I watched on TV a company process Tripe for dogs. They did not clean the Tripe and they processed it with all the cow poo in it. I would think this would give them the taste for poo.Rob

My second Shepherd was a dedicated poo eater.

At 2 1/2 years old I switched her to raw food and that was the end of poo eating.

The other day I peeked out my window to check on one of my girls I let out and lo and behold she had a turd in her mouth. Walking around with it. I yelled EWW and she dropped it.

Occasionally she does do this. She did it on premium kibble and she does it occasionally now with raw too.
Needless to say, I keep up on cleaning my yard cause it's just nasty!

Thats interesting Michele.... I switched from kibble (no poo eating) to raw, and now he eats poo!!!!

My dog has never eaten his poo. He is on kibble w/some canned meat

Out of curiosity, you guys, do you find that only SOME of the dogs do it, and not all? In other words, do you think certain dogs are pre-disposed to it and not others?

sasha is the only dog iv had that has done it its very nastyy i used to gagg when its fresh and she turned around and started eating it
