I will preface this thread by saying I'm not a candidate seeking office in the upcoming election. I'm a GSD enthusiast with an interest seeing that the organization has the best possible leadership to represent the best interests of the breed in this country. There seems to be significant interest to bring about changes but no direction or organization to accomplish the task.

USCA elections are on the horizon. The by laws outline who is eligable to vote. The organization is structured where the majority of the voting members are the minority. The strength (majority) is with the clubs themselves voting through their delegates.

Here's the shortcoming. In order for a club to vote, there's a proceedure and physical attendence requirement. The majority cannot/will not, send a delegate. In order for the memberships voice to be heard, the voice needs to come from the club through their delegate. This is the breakdown. The membership's voice is silent at the gap that exists at the delegate level.

I would like to help clubs bridge the gap and have representation where they will not be represented. If members want change, here's your chance to be organized it such a way your voice will be heard. Through the power of the majority those that are running for office that represent the views of the members will be elected.

I'm asking for clubs to contact me directly with their interest to have representation for the election. I'm also asking those individuals that can attend the GBM in Reno to contact me. Once the candidates are known, I'll be asking the clubs to select a slate of candidates that can be elected by the delegates.

I'm also encouraging those seeking office to contact me so their objectives and goals for the USCA organization can be passed along so the clubs can make an informed decision.

Do you mean write-in candidates?  Because the deadline for applications to run was May 31st.

Tess,

Some candidates have announced their intentions to run for office and sent in their "resume' to the committee. The list of candidates has not been announced and candidates can still be nominated from the floor.

Who the candidates are does not matter at this time. They will be who they will be. There will be a list and hopefully information about each candidate.

I'm organizing the vehicle that will represent the interest of the clubs to elect whoever the candidate is the clubs want to elect. Does this make sense or have I not explained the process well enough?

Makes sense to me.

I have individuals stepping forward. I need to hear from clubs.

Since when do USA members vote for candidates? After my last club dissolved several years ago, I haven't had a club ( with a voting delegate to send to the GBM) to join.

They don't.  As an individual member of USCA you have NO rights whatsoever.  Don't speak, don't have an opinion, sit in your chair, face forward, feet flat on the floor, hands on knees, do what they tell you and if they want your opinion, they'll give it to you.  Right Johannes?

Hi Louise,

Maybe you can help generate some interest in your area. Many people like to complain, here's the only way to make the desires of the membership influence the organization.

To answer your question here's a paragraph from the USA by-laws, Article VII, Section I, e:

Delegates:

(i) Each full member club may send one (1) voting delegate and two (2) alternates to the meetings of
the General Board.

You are correct, USA members themselves do not vote. Their voices are heard through the clubs. The clubs send deligates to the meeting to cast their vote on the clubs' behalf. This is how the current USA organization works. Part of what has been discussed is changing this structure to an individual vote per individual member. Until this change is in affect. The members are stuck with the current system. If members want change, change has to come from within, in accordance with the by-laws.

As for candidates; I'm not sure posting their opinions here is a good idea. No need to subject the candidates to the wrath of the PDB. It will be best to make them and their ideas known to the clubs. I'm looking forward to hearing from candidates both those seeking re-election and new candidates.

I can not run for office, but I will be willing to represent a club and attend the election so that they can have a vote.

J let me know what the date is and if anyone needs someone to attend so that they have representation.

Lisa
