I've been meaning to replace my blank gun to use for Axel's training and truly appreciate your having jumped the gun and started firing off your rather large fireworks display tonight as it gave me the opportunity to test his reaction and continued focus to his obedience commands. He was unfazed but did look in the direction of the noise once or twice and wanted me to tell you that he thought your fireworks were pretty.

He'll be all set for the 4th of July, then. Isn't it nice to have a dog that doesn't have to spend the whole day hiding and shaking in the bathroom when the cherry bombs start going off?

It is indeed!

I bought Dar a few days before the 4th of July.He was a puppy but could have cared less about the big booming things. He seemed to actually like to watch the fireworks. The showline dog I raised did the same thing. When training them the next 4th of July they were focused on obedience and then I let them enjoy the fireworks with me.

My girl likes to watch the fireworks too. I think she would try to eat one up close but has no fear of the noise.

Hey Keith
You gonna make Bridge Day this year! Was just in "the ville" after a 3 year absence. AMAZING the changes! Some good some not. Any who, cute story. As Abbie has aged everything sets her off. She is not a fan of fireworks or thunder anymore. She is an old girl. I can protect her now, I owe her.

Hey, Rooka!
I'd love to be there but that's the same weekend as NASS so where would you imagine mean-ass and I will be?
Your experience parallels my own...as my dogs have grown older, they have become less tolerant of loud, booming noises. It makes perfect sense if you think about it logically. To a wolf, there is nothing that occurs in nature that includes low-frequency sound information (rumbling) that is not at least dangerous (large waterfalls, rockslides, etc.) and most often catastrophic (tornadoes, hurricanes, volcanoes, earthquakes, etc.). It is perfectly natural for not only canids but virtually all animals to assume that rumbling is a sign that something bad is happening.
