I think this one was dumped and not lost, unlike Crystal's "Annie Oakley and Misty"... I got a call saying there was a dog at a campsite and no one around....the older couple didn't want to bring the dog home, so I went up into the mountains and found her...she was a bit shy, but coaxed her in with some hamburger...
Now what I can't understand is, why someone wouldn't bring her to the humane society rather than letting her get eaten by a wolf or cougar, which we have way too many of out here....it is so sad...she would have been eaten in just a day or two...
There was a spot around her neck where it looks like a flat collar was...she is VERY well fed, so someone did take the time to either feed her free choice or spoiled her rotten with treats...
She is having a blast in my back yard pond, she loves to retrieve, well duh, being the lab that she is...she is spending all her time, just swimming around the pond or wandering the borders of my fence looking out for her owners...
How sad that we as humans have to stoop so low to dump a dog in the woods...
I would say she is middle age, she seemed older when I first picked her up, but after having her for a couple days she has perked up tremendously...Anyone interested??? She gets along with all my other dogs. And didn't give my barn cats a second look....great retriever and a real sweet temperament...not microchipped, I put a found ad in the paper, called Sheriff, HS, Forest Service, all the vets and no one is looking for this sweet dog...

I find it heart breaking to see a dog watching, waiting, faithful to the end that their people will come back for them. They should be ashamed. I can only hope they are looking for her half as hard as she is lookin for them.

Looks like she is having a blast in the pond!! I was hiking with a friend up in the mountains up from where I was living.I got my dog Zane out and he was sniffing the ground and dragged me to an area.I pulled him away from it and looked closer and it was someones dog!! My guess is they took it up there( kinda remote) and shot it!!! Unbelievable!! Hope you are able to find a good home for your new dog.

there is an area to the east of us and to the south of us that are heavily hunted in the fall....ducks, pheasant, deer, etc. every year we see and/or salvage several dogs that have been separated from their owners. sometimes there is an ad in the paper for "lost dog", sometimes not. i have seen some really beautiful dogs. german shorthair, wiemeraner, labs, goldens, you-namer-it. over the years i have come to the conclusion that most of these dogs are either not trained or poorly trained. mr. macho shit-head dog owner only gets the dog out of the kennel in the fall to go hunting. voila, the dog gets lost and its the dogs own fault - after all, it is a hunting dog and that should be bred in. besides, if he's that stupid, he doesn't deserve to come home.
one of the worst deals and made me the maddest was some folks from about 200 mi away had visited relatives for the holiday and brought their 4 mo old wiemeraner pup along to hunt. beautiful puppy, obviously very well bred and costly. pup got lost, ofcourse. we found him running along the road at night and turned him in to the local vet since he was wearing a collar with a rabies tag. they were able to locate the owner who in turn sent someone else to pick up the pup.
1) i would never have left the lost pup in the first place. i would have searched till i found him.
2) i would not have sent someone else to get him. i would have gone myself.
3) i would have found out who found my puppy and sent them a thank you or at least a phone call.
after all was said and done, i was sorry that poor puppy went back to the owners. maybe next time we will look for someone more suitable. its sad, but too many folks look at dogs as a disposable/replaceable commodity.

Hey there VomMarischal,
Careful, I smell a rat in this post,
, ROFL, she may be hunting you, one of the TROLLS, yah right....:-)
Lav, better to be shot in the woods, than left to be eaten/killed by wolves...they don't suffer that way...
Just a word to the money breeders out there, NOT THAT IT WILL DO ANY GOOD REALLY, but please, think before you breed in this economy right now. PEOPLE ARE STILL BUYING BUT WHERE ARE THEY ENDING UP???? Even the good breeders, I am helping train one of their dogs...
I am getting in and turning down so many GSD's right now, that are not properly trained, so the people get rid of them, another couple, I kinda understand, they are going to have triplets. Probably not planned....HEHEHEHE, but nonetheless, they are getting rid of their 2 1/2 yr old GSD, because they dont' know how it will react to 3 kids, let alone, being able to deal with 3 babies and 1 dog....(I'LL TAKE THE DOG ANY DAY OF THE WEEK)!!!!!
Ziegenfarm, you and , me both, I would not have left the mountains until I found my dog...!!!!
VIANDEN, she is purebred lab no question, and very well bred, I used to have an awesome hunting lab. She just has a thicker coat than I like...but better for the duck hunting...she just got out of the pond so is very wet and wavy, not curly and wiry at all...
DebiSue, thanks, this is really one sweet dog, even though it is NOT my breed...
PLEASE PEOPLE....THINK BEFORE YOU BREED YOUR GSD RIGHT NOW...
THANKS, STEPH
