Does anyone hand grind their meat for raw? One of my dogs cant digest bones so I thought I would just grind the meat with the bone. Dont have the money to pay for an electric so thought I would try and hand one. How hard will it be to grind the leg thigh combo with it?

Hey have you considered freezing the chicken in a block and making the dog scrape it to eat?

You can get one on Ebay for about $100.  I had mine for 2 years now and I am still grinding bones with the same blade.

Freezing the meat might be ok but what will that do for the bone on how its digests?

Just a thought: If your dog can't digest bone the likelyhood of him/her not being able to digest ground bone is very big.
I would leave the bone away entirely and just feed meat and marrow (falls off bones when cooked).

I would think it would be very difficult with a hand grinder it was a tough enough job for my northern tools electric grinder to grind thighs and legs.  My girl has digestion issues but is fine with ground bone as long as it is a fine grind.

Baugh, if the lump of chicken is too large to swallow, the dog will have to shave off small pieces by gnawing, same as with any large bone. The bone (and meat) will just come off in small flakes--same thing as you grinding it, except that the dog gets to have some fun with it. People who have dogs that swallow their food whole have some success with this method. BUT: why is it that you think your dog can't digest bone? Never heard of that one. I'm not saying you aren't correct, just wondering what it means. If you say it because you are finding bones in the poop, that just means the dog isn't CHEWiNG bones, nothing to do with digesting. The bones will have most of the nutrients leeched out of them even if they look whole.

He throws up the bones. If the bones made it through to the other side undigested that would be ok. But he throws up over and over and that concerns me.

I had a bitch do the same thing some years ago. She never was able to digest them. I finally gave up and fed her ground.

I used to have an inexpensive grinder that did a very good job on chicken necks and wings.

The brand was Maverick.  It is small and doesn't weigh very much but it is powerful.

You can find them in kitchen stores, probably Amazon and eBay.

Thanks Ill have to look up Amazon and check it out. I bought a meat tenderizer and pound the crap out of the bone. It actually works pretty well and its also great when you have a bad day. Ive actually hit the cutting board so hard it now has permanent marks in it.
