I love German Shepherds but they are damn dirty in a kennel . LOL When we have them here for training they will walk in their own pee and poo and lay where there is pee if you don't clean it as soon as it happens. In the house okay in kennel filthy.  Dobermans and Goldens all seem to be so clean in the kennel. Malinois will be walking on the walls and roofs when they see you coming they are so full of drive but manage to step over where pee is or poo until u can clean and wash them down but not the GS. Its just funny and drives me crazy......

Wrestleman:  I have kennels in my garage where my dogs stay when I am not home.  I have 2 (9 year old and 7 year old) who are very clean kennel dogs.  They never have accidents and wait until they are let out.  The 4 year old does not care and will pee and poo whenever the mood strikes her.  She does not care if she steps in it.  Drives me crazy. Heres hoping that my new pup (5 months old) takes after my older two.

I don't think it is breed specific, just that some dogs are cleaner kennel dogs than others, just like some are easier to house train then others.

I don't think you can equate kennel trained to house trained. I bet your girl who craps in the kennel, if she were properly house trained, she wouldn't crap in the kennel. Not to pick a fight, but I would say she is not a house dog.

I think it is how they are raised.

seen dogs raised in small kennels,  or whelping area wasn't kept clean,  those dogs always walk in their own poop and pee.

dogs not raised in kennels most of their lives tend not to walk around in their leavings.

Beetree:  She is a house dog.  In the house with me and the other 3 shepherds whenever I am home.  Sleeps in my room.  She never has accidents in the house - just in the kennel.

Some dogs are just cleaner than others in a kennel. I have raised all mine the same, and two are nasty and two are very clean. I am currently teaching my 5 month old that she may NOT poop and pee on the concrete patio out back. And also that peeing in the kiddie pool is a no-no!
Not trying to hijack the thread, but my 5 month old female squats and pees in the kiddie pool every day. Is this weird? Anyway I shout at her and chase her out every time I catch her and have to change the water, it seems like she's learning. I just find it really bizarre.

Stacy, maybe she's giving you a hint that she'd like to be toilet trained   Now, if you could teach her to flush...oh the possibilities!

Sorry wrestleman, didn't mean to hijack.  I worked in a kennel years ago and I must say, Danes were the dirtiest dogs by far.  Big poop, big paws, big mess!
