Another dog attack. But this time it wasn't by a banned breed. But in fact one which closely resembles most of the banned breeds. The American Bulldog.

Below is the link to the story:

I have not heard good things about American Bulldogs. As a matter of fact most of them were from other serious dog people who say they can be very aggressive and attacks are common. IMO another breed that needs close supervision and an owner who is a selective breeder.

Wow, how quickly we refocus to generalizations against yet another entire breed. Shame. Pretty soon we will all be like Italy, with ninety-odd banned breeds...although I heard they were dropping many of them from the list because breed discrimination doesn't work.

You guys know that GSDs are third on the hit list, right? You know that crappy feeling you get in your gut when there's talk that GSDs are vicious, right? Why would you want bulldog owners to feel like that?

You know that it's not the dogs but the owners, right?

It is sickening when dog people turn on other dog people's breeds.  Just like rats leaving a ship.  We are all in this together foks.  Some of you aren't old enough to remember the 1960's when GSD's were "the" breed and killed many people.  Ready Karen Delises book for a great perspective on how bvreed fads go round and round.

My sister was mauled severely by a GSD in front of me when I was a kid. Luckily, my parents taught us kids that it was THAT particular dog - not a breed.  I wish everyone's parents were that smart!

I think that breeders or sellers need to make sure they know who they are selling too, and alos once sold they should be keeping up on the sold dogs, EG: organising a party for a puppies of the litter, asking for pictures, visits etc.

Alos the government needs to update the whole dangerous acts law.

I think that the governemtn should make the following rule: All dogs must pass a temperament test, or else be under good control or not a pet or even be owned.
I also personally think that some breeds should be banned, but the above law should also take place.

Oh freaking great. More rules. Glad you aren't here campaigning, because here we have more than enough rules already. You want even more of a nanny government? I for one prefer to take care of my own problems. We need to be educating people on personal responsibility, not passing more laws.

And for the record, most breeders  are VERY careful about who they sell to....assuming you didn't buy off cragislist or from a puppy mill. As a matter of fact, I backed out of 3 buyers already on my litter. As a result I have three puppies yet to place, and they will be 11 weeks old tomorrow. But I don't care, I'm not selling any to someone who will return them as soon as they have to move or who won't train for some kind of certification....ANY kind of certification.

And exactly which breeds would you ban?  If a dog of a specific breed kills someone, I guess ALL dogs that look like that should be banned?  Well in my state that would be Briards, Siberian Huskies, Rotties, German Shepherd. Wow, that will m ake the world a safer place!

You know, in Africa the punks are using monkeys now to intimidate people on the streets.

Bad owners will always exist until laws make it  uncomfortable to BE a bad owner.  Ban pit bulls people get American bulldogs. Ban ABs and they get Bullmastiffs. Ban bullmastiffs and they get Akitas.  Ban Akitas they get Ridgebacks. So, where will they stop?

I don't mean to be rude, but grow a brain stem!  Serious dog attacks are VERY RARE.  The dogs involved represent which ever breed is currently the "bad boy" breed.  Saint Bernards were responsible for a LOT of deaths in the early 70's, and there was an editorial int he JAMA (Journal of American Medical Assoc) calling for the banning of Saints as "vicious" dogs.

Honestly, I just am amazed some times!

its not the breed or the dog..............its the owners fault for cases like this......................NOW EVERYONE GO HOME AND GIVE YOUR DOG A HUG AND KISS

I am glad to see this, I have 13 Mal puppies here and if I needed to keep everyone one of them I would.  Not everyone needs to own a dog, in fact I know several I would not trust with a stuffed animal.

Banning a breed will not solve any problems you need to educate dog owners and prosecute those who abuse their animals and allow then to run at large terrorizing people.
