Thought I would share this pic with you...I'm always teasing the helpers about being afraid of some of the dogs they catch (they are not afraid but I like to give them a hard time) and it was time for me to put up or shut up.   I was just starting to slip the sleeve here.  It's the only pic taken.  You can't tell it in this pic but I am grinning from ear to ear!  I thought it was great!

You're braver than me - I know I'd land flat on my ass!  It's always fun to try something new, though, and I'm glad you were having fun.

Also, that's a gorgeous dog!

That would be Denny.  She is out of a Belgium Kennel (she's not mine so I'm not sure just where in Belgium and no, she isn't on the PDB)  She is our Training Director's SchHIII girl and we all just love her.  I just stood there as directed, he sent her in for a bark and hold and when he gave me the word, I raised the sleeve and my other arm in a threatening manner and she hit me like lightning.  She is very well trained and has a good Aus so I was not afraid but like you said I did worry I would fall on my ass.
There is another dog (not so good on the Aus) that I know would be able to pull me over or perhaps just knock me over backwards - he is that powerful.  My comment after this bite was "When I grow up I want to take a bite from Pike".  He is the one that some helpers actually do fear taking a bite from.  Those that are not afraid of him dread taking a hit.  He hits hard and is damned determined to take that sleeve away from you.  I should clarify here they are not afraid of the dog himself (ok maybe a couple are) but just dread the hit.  If I knew I could keep my feet under me I wouldn't hesitate to catch him in the same kind of situation.  I have seen him take grown men down on the escape.  Someone asked me once when I was inches from his snapping jaws while I took pics of him, wasn't I afraid.  I laughed and said no...I'm not the one with the sleeve so he could care less about me.  Too bad those pics didn't turn out.

If you have a well trained dog in your club and the handler is willing to let you catch the dog, I say go for it Opal.  Everyone should catch at least one dog.  It's an experience!
