I am hoping for some advice here.   My 18 month old gs prelims just came back moderate dysplasic and already showing arthritic changes.  If I put her on high doses of hokamix for the next 6 months should I give her glucosamine also?
My husband and I do not want to give her back to the breeder for another pup, we feel she is not disposable.  We want to try and provide the best pain free quality of life we can.  Has anyone seen a significant improvement in using hokamix after the fact, not just for prevention?

HI SORRY THAT YOUR FEMALE HIPS ARE NOT SO GOOD BUT IF SHE IS OK WITHIN HERSELF AND NOT SHOWING ANY SIGNS OF BEING IN PAIN THEN I WOULD JUST GIVE HER THE SAME NATURAL EXCERSISE AS NORMAL AS THIS WILL BUILD UP THE MUSCLE AROUND THE HIP JOINTS AND SHE SHOULD LIVE A FULL NATURAL LIFE MY FEMALE HAS NOT GOT GOOD HIPS AND THIS IS WHAT I DO WITH HER AND SHE LOVES GOING FOR HER WALKS UP THE FORREST AND TO THE BEACH ECT SHE IS 5 YEARS OLD NOW AND STILL ALL IS GOOD WITH HER GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY YOUR FEMALE

Thanks, Shostring!  I forgot to mention she shows no signs what so ever.  She runs all day in the yard, does stairs, jumps on bed and furniture, we go for walks and swim her.

I have used Hokamix Joint for a fair time it has everything to aid the Joints without adding extra
You do not need to give a higher dose than recommended To be honest if you do you will do no good at all possible harm if Hokamix or any other supplement was told on the tin to give it Ad Lib you would read it and it does not say so keep to the dosage,Good Luck with your Dog

Steve,

I am looking at the Hokamix information brochure and I spoke to the representative, both say for hip dysplasia double the dosage for six week then return to the maintenance dosage.  I was hoping you would chime in on this because you were the one who told me about Hokamix.  I know you use it from the start with puppies, do you have any experience of it helping once dysplasia is diagnosed?  Will it do all it says?

missy
i feel for any owner who when gets there dogs hips & elbows X-rayed to find the Dog sutffers from Dysplasia
It really is the worse wait anyone can have or even be confirmed by the Vet taking them
I am a very fortunate person of the Dogs i have owned since moving to Belgium everyone has has a normal Hips, and i am saying this with the Present one Izzy it is thought by those who have looked at her X-Rays on here that she is good the Vet who took them thought so too,
Yes regards the dosage i thought you meant all the time, I feel sure this helps a young Pup and my new pup  9 weeks old being here less than one week with me is already on Hokamix, joint, one quarter of Vitamin E tablet each morning for 4 days a week, then one quarter Brewers Yeast + Garlic tablet 3 days a week on the morning feed a very small amount of Salmon Oil, all will be increased as she grows to the Max of one tablet per day and the right amount of Hokamix as she grows on, Regards your Dogs Joints, i think if they are not 100% i do not think there is any magic cure, but i think Hokamix may help to stop it going worse than it is and keep the joints supple i rate it very highly indeed

I just give my dysplastic girl regular human grade glucosamin/chondriotin/MSM, vitamin E, and on the suggestion of a friend, evening primrose oil. I have no experience with Hokamix. I do like Nupro silver joint support.

missyfly- teach your dog to walk backward and sideways. This strengthens muscles your dog does not normally use walking around and will create muscle all around the joint. Also swim her if regularly if you can. You can do a lot for her and she can still live a good life if kept in the right condition. My OFA moderate dysplastic dog got her UD at 3 years of age and her RE at 7. Luckily, she is blessed with a lighter, athletic build.

It's damn shame your breeder requires her return to replace her, but that's what many breeders do, unfortunately.
