I have a young female that just turned 16 mo. I tried for her BH at the first of May, she was just 15 mo. by one week.  We had a very bad day and she decided she was going tracking in the middle of the off leash and we did not pass.

I live in Utah and we are the only USA club here, our club is not going to have another trial this year and I do not want to wait for a year to go for her BH again.  We have a DVG club here that is going to be having a trial in the Fall.  The way I understand the rules is that I can enter the DVG trial, but the judge has to be a SV judge in order for the BH to count for USA.  If it is not a SV judge then I would not be able to go on to the SchH I in USA.  Does anyone know if this is correct, and if so why?

If I have to I will travel, but just wanted to know the explanation for this rule.  I know that if a DVG member trials for a BH in a USA event, the certification counts.

Thanks,

I think what is getting you confused is the USA Breed Survey Regulations and Prerequisites for Entry (found at http://germanshepherddog.com/regulations/breed_survey_regulations.htm):

"3.4. Performance Title

Dogs must have at least one performance title (SchH1-3, VPG1-3, IP1-3, or HGH) obtained under a USA-recognized performance judge, and a BH obtained under a WUSV-recognized judge. Dogs with an HGH title are not required to have a BH title."

So, if you plan to do a breed survey, then you need an SV judge for your BH - this requirement applies even if you trial for your BH in USA but the judge is not an SV judge.

If you only are concerned about performance titles, then non-SV should be sufficient.

Thanks,

I called USA office and asked them and the gal told me that if it was not a SV judge than I would not be able to title my girl SchH I in a USA trial.  I guess I am not understanding why.  I know if a DVG member trials at a USA trial it all counts.

I called a few months ago and was told UScA does not accept titles/ratings from other organizations, unless it was awarded by an SV judge.

There was no discussion about breed surveys, just flat out "no" was the way I understood it.

If all you're wanting to do is title your dog without worrying about all the crap for breed surveys then you can trial at DVG if you want.

Yes all I want is to title her.  I am not going to breed her.  I would like to go as far as I can with her, I think we can go all the way to SchH III.  She is a great little girl she has tons of drive, and is learning new things everyday.
