I don't see why they couldnt get a SCH title. It is designed to test a dogs working ability and has little to do with the look of the dog.  Is this not correct?

Perhaps the breed survey rating is what should be looked at? Here is where the dogs look is considered, as I understand it.

Feel free to correct me if I am mis-educated. I am a relative newbie to this breed and happy to learn.

I don't understand what the dog's length of coat has to do with his ability to work. If he can do the work, than he deserves the title, regardless of his coat.... Seems the three dogs on this thread are  showline dogs. I think thats awesome.. Showlines can work too, even if they do have long coats.

I don't know where this is coming from.  I don't know anything about show lines, but I can speak a little about working lines.  There are many, many long stock coats who title.  Their coat has nothing to do with it.  Many working line litters produce coats.  One of my all time favorite dogs who is competing now happens to be  a long stock coat.  He has drive for days, he is a powerful, great dog, but this has nothing to do with his coat, he just happens to have one.   Incidently he was just shown in a regional SV show & got a "v" rating for his show card.......So There!

Sue is completely correct.     Coat length never had anything to do with earning Sch titles, or even competing in high-level competition, unless a breed survey was also a requirement.   Many, many normal coats are carriers of the coat factor.  Some you can tell carry coat factor by looking at them; others give no indication until they produce coated pups.    At any rate, it has nothing to do with working ability, or titling.

Sue, Hooray!!!!  That is awesome news!!! So happy to hear it. So, what is the latest you have heard on the SV ruling regarding the long coats?  I would think it passed since your friend showed the dog, but haven't heard anything.

Mystere & Sue, Tell me if I am wrong, but can't any breed of dog get titled providing it can do the work? I know that is the case with the club I used to belong to, but does that hold true with every club, both here and in Europe?

Sunset, Based on the dogs you posted I am guessing you have been in contact with Dagmar of House-Barrett. House-Barrett has an excellent reputation.  I've never heard anyone say anyhting negative about that kennel at all. I am a long coat GSd fan and have talked to a number of long coat breeders and individuals who own long coats  They all have nice things to say about Dagmar and house-Barrett. For what it is worth, if I was looking for a long coat German showline pup, House-Barret would be my first choice. All of their breeding dogs are health screened, breed surveyed (at the long stock hair shows- not SV shows)  and titled. I hope this helps.

I don't know anymore than you Starrchar!  I am still in the dark about anything official.  Yes, any breed or mix can compete.

Any breed (or variety) can work and compete and title.   Longhair, no hair, blue hair, it doesn't matter.

Coats can be shown in Sv-style shows, but separately, I believe.  They would have their own class(?) within the show.
