Being a good Ambassador as a dog and for the breed too is obviously very rewarding, but can be mis-leading to some people, who think that they are all automatically identically going to be what they are seeing and wanting, and perhaps with little input from themselves!
When I meet someone who suggests that they would like to consider having a GSD themselves. I impress on these people that they do not arrive ready trained!! Because they admire the behaviour, response and interaction of my dogs with me, I make clear that this is due to commitment of training.
So although meeting a good Ambassador of (any breed), it can give some people a rosy-coloured image (without awareness of the work that produces what they are admiring).
Obviously, we need to ensure that people understand both sides.
