I am wondering if anyone knows where I could send dog hair that I have brushed out of my dogs, I heard that alpaca breeders are collecting their wool and sending it. Someone had posted here not too long ago about setting up a collection to help, I would be interested if this is going on somewhere.

I work at Petco and we are sending the hair from our grooming department to the oil spill..  Maybe you could talk to the Petco in your area and see if they are doing this also. If so, then you could just take the hair down there.

Hope this helps.

Could be a possibility, closest Petco is an hour and a half away though. Will keep that in mind.
Thanks Jyl

I actually posted a link with the address a couple of weeks ago, I'll see if I can dig it up.

The local dog training school has someone actually collecting, boxing and sending hair/fur to this program - many people including myself are collecting and bagging dog hair brushed out, I've already filled 5 grocery bags from my dogs' normal daily brushings.  I also will be donating my sheep's wool, which will be a huge amount and hopefully enough to help more than dog hair - should be 13 large garbage bags stuffed full, plus 10 or so more from my neighbor, just have to get the sheep shearer out but should be in the next week or so.

Like washing an Elephant with a tooth brush and forgetting to wipe off its feet.

It's inspiring that so many want to help out in whatever way they can, but it's not enough.

You can't undo this.

Moons, I understand that most of the damage cannot be undone and the worst is yet to come.  This will be a legacy we'll pass on to more generations than any other man-made disaster, I'm sure.  But, that doesn't mean we stop trying.  Every bird or fish saved is a glimmer of hope and if we save enough, maybe, just maybe, there will be a possibility of rebirth at some point.  Hope springs eternal and that is the human condition.  We can't give up.

Wouldn't want you to.

Just makes me angry,
and I hope the anger grows and people demand changes.

Something about disasters that bring people together,
I wish it didn't have to take such an event to have that effect on folks.

I want to see everyone involved step up to the plate and pay for this, they can afford it I'm sure.

And at least it looks like the government is already trying to change a few things, better late than never.

Some things cannot be undone and thats the sad part here.

Moons.

Funny, I just saw the movie "Avatar" and I realized that it will be the same if we ever get far enough to gain other planets.  Maybe in four generations, we'll be colonizing new worlds so we can watch this one die from afar.  And the cycle will continue there, and so on...
