What do you feel is fair to pay for a good training helper?. One that titles there own dogs and other peoples, and trains people and dogs to get ready to show at club, to national level? I know how much these guys go through to stay in shape and how much time it takes out of there daily life (i used to do some helper work when i was younger) and seeing the amount of  abuse they physicaly take. Aslo the equipment they have to buy so they can work our dogs for us.
I know for some of us its worth more than money but i was just wondering what others think...

B.T.W. thank you to all the helpers and track layers out there who are putting there bodys on the line for us to show our dogs.

Isn't there a UScA rule that the helper can't be paid? I think a lot of people do it, but isn't that the official stand?

Paying helpers when?

At a club training session

During a private lesson

Pre-Trial session

It all depends on when and where??

I havent heard anywhere that a helper can not be paid. I know that a UScA tattoo cant be paid. Is that what you are thinking of?

I don't think my training helper is the type of person that would ask for so much money it would be beyond what I would consider fair or affordable for Schutzhund.  I do not expect people to train and work my dogs for free but I don't think a great training helper is only doing it for the money just like a good club member is not just there to only title their dogs.  It is part of being in the club, everyone contributes dues, even the helpers, and everyone is able to help out in some ways beyond just training their own dogs.  I would bet I am willing to pay a good training helper more than what s/he would feel comfortable accepting.

I agree with you Vickie i just dont have that many gold coins... He is a pretty big guy lol.

No not at a club. 2 to 3 times a week for semi privates throughout the year, and he aslo lays tracks leading up to trials.

Im not sure about what UScA says about paying, but i know at higher levels the helpers get compensated for there travel, rooms, and food ect. ect.

Helper Fees
— $20 Prepay —
— $30 At Show —

We collect money from the entrants to offset the helper costs -- travel, lodging, meals, and to pay the helpers for their work at practice. In the past,we have collected the money at the practice sessions. To help make things run more smoothly at the practice field, this year we will provide the option to prepay this fee.

When you reserve a practice session, we add an item to your invoice. If you register multiple dogs, you will have multiple items on your invoice. You may also include a trophy sponsorship on that payment.

As with the show registration, you will have the option to pay on-line, by mail or by phone to the USA office. Click on the shopping cart button that appears in the upper right corner of this page when you reserve a practice session.

Absolutely no tipping or payments of any kind to the trial helpers at anytime. Members who do so will be dismissed from the competition

That's specifically for the Sieger Show, in order to avoid bribing of the helpers.

by VomMarischal on 18 May 2010 - 20:05

Oh I see, Tess. I was told at one point that you could only offer them club membership, not money.
