"...can the american s/l work if so are they better then german s/l"

You might find the odd exception but working temperament is seldom a consideration with American showline breeders resulting in most being unsuitable as working dogs and nowhere close to even the worst German showlines.

"i know 99.9% of all working lines can be great for sch, police, sar, military etc"

Not even close.

"but what about showlines?"

Depends on the dogs and how important working ability is to the breeder but there are plenty of German showline dogs with good work.  You should probably spend less time reading articles on the internet about the subject and more time attending trials so you can see the strengths and weaknesses in both working and showlines.

If you've already made the decision that showlines aren't for you, why are you asking about them?  It sounds to me like you're making decisions based on very little real understanding.  Good luck with that.

Clint, how did you get on at your first visit to the Sch club you went to? The folks there will be able to give you great advice i'm sure. Hope you and your 2 dogs enjoyed it.

I was going to lease a a Von Bad Boll dog but had little desire to work so the statement that "the worst german lines" is not true. Ive bred American line dogs that did work and had crazy prey drive.

Poster you picked a touchy subject compairing American lines to German. It boils down to the individual dog. Youll have far greater chances choosing a german dog over an american dog but again there is no guarantee. I would recommend that if your looking for a working dog that is nice to the eye, you might want to stay with the german/belgium/etc etc dog

Sorry, I am not familiar with leasing dogs so I'm not sure how that works but how did you determine the dog had little desire to work?

How did you make the determination that they aren't for you if you don't already know about them?
