I changed my dogs food but not too sure I like the results (Organic Castor Pollux). This dog does terrible on raw believe it or not. Ive come to the conclusion that he might be somewhat allergic to high protein as Ive tried foods that were one protein one carb and poop was terrible. He doesnt itch so much on the Castor Pollux so thats a real plus but he poops alot and has gas so its obviously not working too well. I thought I would try Pinnacle. Does anyone else feed it?

My son feeds Pinnacle to his Malamute -- no problems.

I was just looking at whats in it, how much does a bag cost?

by Bhaugh on 15 May 2010 - 18:05
For a 30 lb bag here in Vegas it runs about 54.00

Thats why I would not buy it.
Seems like a lot of hype.
My lesser known brand is $21.00 for #50 pound bag and I have never had a problem with it in twenty years.
At those prices I could feed human food from the grocery store.

Bhaugh, your dogs problem with gas and many stools may not necessary come from the protein content, but from the fiber and fat content. Pinacle food appears to be even higher in the fiber and fat percentage than the Castor. You might want to try an Allergy food from Wellness, like Rice & Salmon, which are lower in both contents and it doesnt have as many "other" ingredients. It also comes in other protein varieties.
I personal have very good results with the Wellness Core Fish (grain free) for my allergic male. My other dogs eat the regular Wellness Core. Pricewise its nowadays about the same. I had experienced the "gasing" and mushy stools previously with California Natural and Canidae. Feeding the Wellness since 2 years now and never looked back. Some of my fellow club members swear by Proplan Lamb & Rice, have not tried this one for myself.

I fed my dogs Pinnacle for a long time and they did very well on it.

Elkoor,
I tried the Natural Balance Trout and Sweet Potato and that was a mess. Did you feed that before you fed the Wellness Core? The Core is newer I think so hasnt been out that long?
