What does PSA actually stand for anyway? Do they have a web-site?

Protection Sports Association

www.PSAk9.org

Psa is a protection and obedience test.

It has real pressure, scenario based and many scenarios are unknown to handler in bot obedience and protection.
similated war games and or whatever craziest idea that would test the dog. real distraction in obedience and real pressure put on dogs.

only 5 dogs in the US have ever titled both legs of there PSA3. hopefully soon to be 6. you must title on 2 field for your 2 and 3. to alleviate home field advantages.

oh and the site will be re-done/updated soon.

just to add:

a couple scenarios you might like that i have seen.

handler and dog are confronted by perp. second passive decoy takes off in the distance. the dog must preform call off. then original perp tries to steal your car. your dog must find open window-passenger- and engage perp. recall out window and retrieve throw away gun.

retriving through 3 decoys legs with them agitating dog.

handler attacks during obedience and dog cant break.

automatic blank gun-water hoses-
decoys on bikes-
decoys under-in-on cars-
biting through water filled pipes,
bites with multiple 1 meter jumps,
dogs downing while perps roll them around in wheel barrels,
balls, tugs, sleeves, ponds of water etc.... on field during obedience and protection
feeding sleeves to dogs on bites to make sure they arent sleeve happy

the list goes on and on. you have to have a dog trained for any purpose to compete.

they just opened up a sleeve division in lower levels to get some schh people out.
but it is far more of a test than schh in my eyes and doesnt have the monotany of a
routine and the same thing all the time.

SO FOR ALL OF THE SCHH LOVERS ON HERE I invite you out and to take a look at what the sport is all about.
It will test you and your dog i promise and is a lot of fun.

Greg Williams has also titled more dogs than any person in the sport as well as his dog asja has the 1st leg of her 3. Soon to be both. He is a very sound trainer-helper, and is a multple winner of the iron man decoy award from PSA.

How is it to switch from SchH to PSA?  The foundation is already there.  So, what to do to go from SchH to PSA?

Its not a switch from Sch to PSA, two different sports. PSA did add a sleeve division to HELP people cross over because not everybody has a suit. Most people will say that I cant do PSA because my dog has only bitten a sleeve so PSA fixed that problem.
PSA is a blast, if you get a chance go  watch an event.
I do think it is important to start the foundation work SCH style then add the distractions later.

 PSA looks like a circus!!!!

good luck with the seminar. hoping to make it out there but its not a definite yet.

PSA looks like a circus!!!!

no circus at all. the training is allot of fun. we train for so many different scenarios that you just don't see in other sports. its more real life. the pressure put on these dogs will quickly weed out a weak dog.

well I'm off to my "circus" training.
