I don't usually post things like this on here, but recently I saw the conditions of my brother in laws dog.  He is a Pit/lab mix, solid black, and he is in horrible condition.  Very under fed, all ribs show, eats ol roy dog food, and I can tell he is VERY dehydrated.  He is in a small kennel, shaded thankfully, but the ground has turned to dirt, no grass, no roof over the kennel, and the dog house is not together.  They have no desire to take care of him, so I'm searching to find him a good home before he is dead, and they are willing to let him go.  Does anyone on here know of anyone in the middle TN area who would be wanting to get a dog like this? He's great around kids, very playful from when I met him in the past, needs to be neutered.  He's about 4 and 1/2 years old, with a huge head.  Or does anyone on here know of anyone looking for a nice pet that will need some good care and treatment.  I do not know if he has been up to date on shots, and I don't know if he has been on heart guard or anything for that matter.  I'm going to try posting on some other sites, and also put something up local.

What good will talking to him do? He isn't trying to find the dog a home, but he has said he will let me search for one for him.  He's lazy, and really couldn't care less. Talking to him will do no good.....trust me, if you knew this guy......

GSDguy08,
Sounds like you just need to have his attention first.  I find a 2X4 upside the head works wonders.  Good luck in your endeavors.

LOL....
It's not your fault who your sister married.

It's sad.

You have your work cut out for you.

Might consider putting it down.

Might consider turning him in for cruelty.

I dunno.

Thats why I didn't really want to comment.

Yeah I know people like that.

Sad.

 GSDguy,

Moons has a point. If the jerk does not take care of the dog, your taking responsibility for the dog gets the jerk off the hook. Speak up and let him know what you think and tell him, if he is not going to take responsibility for finding the dog a new home, that he should consider taking it to the shelter. And be sure to tell him never to have a dog again. You take the dog and you may end up not finding it a home. Then what? People need to be responsible......

Since the dog is, or, may be dehydrated any thoughts on putting some water out there on a daily basis.
Since your brother-in-law is an asshole how about talking to your sister.
I am sure she could take some time out of her busy schedule to put some water out there for the dog.
If it is too much of a bother for both of them then call the police.
It is that simple!

Kudos to you for attempting to help!  And don't ever let them babysit!

Have you contacted any rescues in the area? You would have to lie and say that it was your dog or most wont take him. I would bypass talking to the brother in law since its obvious he cares little for the dog (since the dog is already in this condition). Its hard to find homes for dogs of this breed. If you dont know any rescues in your area, try Petfinder.com.

I think its great that youve stepped up to try and find this dog a home. If no rescue will take him, neuter him yourself and place him up as a free to good home. If you take him to the shelter, he might not make it out. Although Im not a pit fan myself, just because he isnt a german shepherd doesnt make him any less deserving to find a home. Had the post been about a german shepherd, the responses would have been more positive.

Bhaugh, I found one rescue here that is leaned more towards that breed. I'll be contacting him soon.  This dog is not dog aggressive, and not really even dog dominant so that helps.   Before they moved to a different location, their next door neighbor fed that dog scraps every single day, he was thick, and stout looking.  Obviously not good for him, but he kept a good weight.  Now that they've moved the dog is bone skinny.  I would say imagine a stocky black lab with a massive Pit Bull head....that should give you an idea of what he looked like....at least before he got this skinny.

Unfortunately guys my sister couldn't really care less either.   Shes turned out a lot like her husband since she married him 5 years ago.  I feel sorry for her and their kids.
