I was wondering if anybody used any kind of medicine for a dog that is starting to dispaly hip displasia. I had taken my girl to the vet because she was constipated. This is so unlike her since she has EPI. Well, it was a sunday and she was trying to go for 2 hours and I decided to take her because she had gotten into some chicken wing bones. I know not good. Anyhow, they took x-rays to make sure there was no blockage and there was not. The ER Vet did tell me that she has bad hips. They have her some medicine because there was gas in her stomach which were symptons of Colitis due to EPI. When I took her to my vet the next day for a follow-up the vet did confirm that her hips are stating to get bad and stated that she also has spondalosis.... She is only 6. He has some medicine that he can put her on that is a non=steriod and has an anti-inflammatory... It is not a RX, but some kind of a natural product that has Glucosamen in it. Has anybody else had a dog with hip problems? I am just curious as to what you did with the dog and at what age your dog started having problem. She is not showing any outward signs yet. I am hoping that she won't for a long time.

I had a dog who was starting to be arthritic at 4 years of age. I switched her to raw and she improved hugely until she was 8 and it started creeping back up again. This was a dog that OFAed good, but who got arthritis, or so I assumed....could have been spine issues. Anyway, just the raw diet helped her for quite a long time. The Glucosamine didn't do squat for her.

Same as above only my girl is 11.4 years old, started limping, changed her to raw and I sware to G she quit limping, that was the first of March and she is still NOT limping at all, in fact I took her on an almost 2 mile walk, day before yesterday; she did great, but I decided I would not take her quite that far next time. She did get tired, but no limping.
There is something or should I say several things in RAW food that the dogs thrive on; shall we say, cartlidge, bone morrow, fat, protein, bone in itself plus much much more that does the dogs wonders. Some say raw chicken feet are supposed to be a natural form of glaucausamine (forgive my SP). So there you have it. Proof is in the dogs. NAn

Pharaoh really loves chicken feet. I cut the super sharp tonails off first. It is really weird cutting chicken toenails.
My dog Shadow developed spondylosis when he was twelve. I gave him Deramaxx.
