A friend called today and said she thinks her adult dog has parvo. Her vet is closed and asked for my opinion. So dressed in her rubber boots that will stay there, and a bottle of bleach in hand, I went to see. Sure enough, bloody stool, that smells like hell. She said that the stool is not always like that. Sometimes there is no blood in it at all just runny. Dog hasn't lost appetite and still very active. No throw ups either. Of course I told her she needed to take it to a vet. She said she called vet this morning and he said to give pepto to dog and if it was still like that Monday to bring it in. I told her find another vet now, Monday maybe too late... Has anyone experienced parvo in an older dog? I don't know what more to tell her. Any ideas?

Why do you think this is parvo? There are a myriad of other possibilities......

I didn't say I thought it was pravo, I said that she said, SHE thought it was parvo. I just said that sure enough it had bloody stool like parvo and smelled like hell. Actually, if it was parvo, wouldn't the stool always have blood in it? I don't know, thats why I asked here to see what the more experienced think. Maybe we can help her. ? If it were my dog, I know what I would do, which is what I suggested she do. But I don't think she has the money to take him since it will be emergency charges... IDK Please, lets not cruify her. She's not even on here, thats why I'm asking for her...

Whipworm infection also presents these same symptoms. I was called by a friend years ago who's son had a Rottie that he pretty much dumped on them. This dog was as nasty as they come but once loaded in a crate, tests were done and severe whipworm was the culprit. The stool smelled exactly like parvo too. I had a few hound puppies brought to me many years ago that all had parvo. I did my best but unfortunately none lived. The smell was identical.

I have never experienced parvo before. I do breed dogs, but not like many other breeders who are constantly producing puppies, and may deal with it regularly. I do believe that I am doing something right since I have never had any experiences with my puppies and my breeding program concerning parvo. I Prevent it and I don't have to deal with it ... I stay on top of it....Maybe if I would have had problems with parvo I could have been able to help her on my own, and not come to this board.

Melba, whipworm is more likely the problem.. I didn't think Parvo was common in adult dogs. This dog is always running the woods and isn't the best kept dog. She loves her dog, but I doubt that the dog is up to date on worming. Thanks for your opinion.

Hodie, I do not know exactly what the vet told her or asked her, all she told me was what I put in the OP. So I can not answer those questions.....

Sorry to have posted any attempt here at helping NONA. Don't worry....I won't post a helpful response to one of your questions again. Nona, you have a problem. You misread an email yesterday and jumped me and then apologized. I said nothing about that. And I graciously answered your post here. I won't do so again. You just sent me a rude PM and I should have simply posted it here.
Do me a favor. Don't PM me asking about a "truce" as you just did, and then come back here and post a disingenuous email as you did above. I have no reason to have any "truce" with you, and frankly, won't respond again to any post you make. And don't PM me again. I am not interested in your games.
Now yes, you have pissed me off. Don't expect me to assist you in any way. Post your messages in which you demonstrate over and over what you do and don't know. Maybe others will want to help you but if you act with them as you do me, they will soon stop as well. Maybe your good buddy can help answer some of your questions that breeders like you ought already to know the answer to.......
