This morning i went to watch a Show Dog Event this was to obtain a  Korclasse
As i had never been to a show before it was interesting to see what happened and i was surprised at what went into it,  something which will stand me in good stead when i get to that stage with Izzy,
First they weighed the Dogs measured them and looked at there teeth, Plus a few other things went on but i was a few yards away watching and could not pick up what else they were doing
Then they did a little bit of Protection, a Bite and a Long Attack, Then it was running around the Ring Three Dogs at one time, then each dog was put into a Show Pose and the Judge looked at the Dogs more closely i could not see what he was looking for i was too faraway to here him. Overall,an interesting Morning which will tell me what to expect when Izzy gets to that stage
She will soon be taking a Social test, Before her BH i hope. Yes, this showing side was interesting, There were 18 dogs in all some Show lines and some Working Lines, It was held at Ronny van den Berghs Club so met some friends there as well,

Glad you had a good time. Hope to see Izzy strut her stuff some day. I liked training dogs to show but rather train them up so  professional handler can show them and they don't need anyone to be a double handler. Never understood why people can't just train the dogs to gait on command and stack and look good doing it.

You can do it that way but it is rare.  For breed surveys, fine, but in shows where there may be a dozen dogs of equal quality, looking for the top one to really stand out, you just get more from the dog with good double handling.  I don't like to spend a lot of time ring training, I'll admit it does feel like a waste to me, but it does make a difference.  I show my dogs myself in UKC but the WDA/SV shows are different and unless the dog is impecably trained, doubling handling works best.  You'd actually waste a lot more time training the dog to not have a double handler.  My dog looks and moves very different when I show him myself vs. when I double handle.  I've done far less ring training for the WDA shows than conformation training for UKC shows and he shows much better in the WDA shows.

I went to a USA regional SV show, and I agree Steve, they are interesting.  I have a friend who does a lot of handling at these shows, she's fun to hang with and great at explaining the particulars.  None of the dogs I picked won!!!!!!!

Liesjers-It is possibe and you are right it is rare cause people don't spend the time training dogs for it like i did.The pup i raised for a breeder was handled by a German handler that said he was very pleased with the way the dog was trained. The dog got 1st place. He won 1st place at all but 1 show.(is was politics that won out of who was showing the dog that one and who was selling it)

I throughly enjoyed the experience, and as i will have to do it with Izzy as i am hoping to get her Korclassed in time
I was not sure what went on seeing i had never been to one of these events, The Showlines stood out going around the Ring and the Working lines showed the difference on the Protection side, So Although i will never own a Show Line because that side does not interest me i give them full credit for there is a fair bit to do and people can enjoy themselves
Already i am taking Izzy to a Show Club once a week , we go this evening, and the running around the ring getting her to stretch and of course it helps muscle her up, When i started the Judge said to me we say OP OP to get them running and if they slow etc we say OP OP and it is fun Makes me laugh really i am at least twice as old as the Younger Guys, But i keep pace with them
Also it has steadied Izzy down a bit, Now i can get her in some sort of a Pose, The Judge can now measure her and look at her teeth, Not so when we first started , She caused a bit of Havoc to begin with but she is now coming around and acting like a Lady at times, So it has done us both a bit of Good,
Soon i am putting her in a Social Test, then her BH
Next Saturday Izzy will have her first Birthday, she will be 12 months old so time is going by fast
