From the article:
<<Officer Greene said the 5-year-old German Shepherd conducts two-to-seven building searches a night.
Last year, the K-9 unit went on 510 runs. He assisted in more than 90 arrests. Fourteen of those arrests involved a suspect being bitten according to Officer Greene.
"You have people with clubs, weapons, saws, and everything like that hiding in these cubby holes ready to jump out and hit one of the officers," said Greene.
Crooks target closed schools like Coolidge Elementary to steal copper piping, window bars, and other scrap metal to sell at scrap yards.
All buildings -- open or closed -- are equipped with alarm systems. When an alarm goes off, a K-9 unit is notified.
