Who here has it?  And, have you used it?  Do you feel it has been worth the money?  After my scare with the supposed ACL injury, I am looking at getting it, but wanted to hear from others who have had some experience with it.  Thanks.

No, I don't have it nor do I buy extended warranties. Worry for wampum; one decides how much is needed to pay in order  to sleep well at night, for it to be worth it. That amount varies for everyone.

I have it for one of my dogs. I've only made one claim and was very happy to receive a $600 cheque in the mail only a week later. My premium didn't go up a cent! I will always have pet insurance, it really gives me piece of mind as I don't have the luxury of having a couple thousand in the bank account at any given time. I do have a savings fund, but we all know that vet bills can quickly sap away all of your extra cash. At least this way, I only pay 20%. Of course, you have to pay your vet in full, up front....but at least you know you'll get a decent cheque in a week or two. Many people say  "put $100 in a savings account each month instead". While that's a fine idea, many emergency vet bills exceed $1200 - then what do you do?!  At least with pet insurance, I know we're covered even if the bill is in the thousands. Why not get pet insurance and also put  "dog money" in with the rest of your savings. That way if something comes up, you have a nest egg AND you'll get 80% of your money back too. Many people think it's a waste of money, but I'm quite pleased with it.

Sometimes when I look at my monthly outgoings I feel like cancelling all the insurances I have. But the last one I would cancel is the pet insurance to be honest. I can live without my car warranty,  but not my dog! I've always had pet insurance and it has saved me a fortune over the years. There was one instance with my last dog where I wouldn't hav been able to afford the care he needed if I hadn't had insurance, so I'm so glad I had it. HOWEVER, I did find that my premiums increased after this, and I was not amused. Furthermore it is much harder to insure an older dog cheaply, particularly if they have had any costly health conditions in the past, or have any conditions that are likely to re-occur. My advice is to get a decent deal when they are young and stick with that (but check the small print). The kennel club insurance is extortionate in my opinion (no surprise there). There are many much more reasonable deals out there.
