That was fun to watch.  Give the dog a little more time and he will be driving the Police Car too!!!  LOL

Actually, a dog I spent a great deal of time with, Cisco vom NeoHaus, aka "Balkan" taught himself to open a car door from the outside exactly like this. He can also, from the inside, unlock the door with his teeth then open it and let himself out. When he stayed with me for training I NEVER kept him uncrated in my car for fear of losing him! Brilliant dog.

Hey Kelly do you remember that White Shepherd that boarded with a Husky? It wasn't a nice Shepherd(go figure) but when the guy would come to pick it up he would let the dog off leash to go to the truck and the dog would open the door. Maybe that is how he got out of the kennel and was running up and down the isle. That was fun getting that mean SOB back in the kennel run!!!

this isnt a difficult thing to teach a dog. We do it every day with service dogs.

All it is is teaching targeting work and the hold/tug with your retrieve to open and close doors.

its actually a really simple thing to do.

Yochy- I posted this cause I was amazed that a Police dog was actually trained to do this. With the exception of the police dogs trained where I worked...most police dogs I have seen lack training as it is. So for this officer to take the time to train the dog for something extra I thought was pretty good. It isn't hard to train if you know what you are doing. Most Police officers AREN'T trainers to even have a clue of how to have the dog to do such things.(No offence to the officers on this board that do know how to train, don't bite my head off for this post)
