Long story short, I was bitten by a Pit this morning.  Tooth on bone does not feel good.  All I can say is, it wasn't the dog's fault, he was doing his job and could have done much more damage.  This hit and run bite is on my ankle, all the way around, with the largest punctures in the back.  These people do rescue volunteering at our local no-kill shelter and have taken in 2 Pits, this one being aggressive.  Their female is a sweetheart and she even came to comfort me after the male had been contained.  Both were rescued from abusive situations and the male cannot be rehabilitated.  I'm on heavy antibiotics and have to leave the wounds uncovered to heal.  Drake knew as soon as I came in the door, his nose went straight to my pant leg.  He didn't greet me, just wanted to lock his nose on my ankle.  He amazes me sometimes, he's being very gentle, he knows I'm hurt.  In about two hours he'll be pouting because we will not be walking 4 miles this afternoon, and I'm sure his sympathy for me will subside .

I am so sorry for you! OUCH! Drake will probably feel your mood. I hope they gave you some good pain killers. Otherwise, start cracking open the beers, it's the afternoon and you won't be driving any where.

No good pain killers - Advil - bummer.  Actually though, the pain is pretty bearable, just aches some.  I'll be making a little Irish Coffee, does the soul good.  Thanks for the well wishes.

Yow! My sypmpathies!  I've been "tagged" before, but never "bitten to the bone", and the tag is more than bad enough.  Can someone maybe come walk your boy for you?  That way he gets his exercise, and you can rest and keep that wound elevated!

Sorry you had to go through that, it could have been worst.

I don't believe in (no kill Shelters).

Have you noticed how much money the humane society is spending on television commercials lately.

All the new legislation proposed state by state.

It's gonna get worst unless people realize that it's wrong to not put most of these animals down.

Hope you have something for the pain, and that you do not get an infection.

Glad it wasn't a small child.

Moons.

"Drake knew before you came in the door" ....... Did you KNOW before entering, his attitude and consider your attitude and response?

What if you (or someone) had fallen down inside as he grabbed and bit you????

Very sorry to hear that this happened.  Hope you will make a full and complete recovery very soon,

Kind Regards,
Vixen

I agree, "No Kill" is a bad idea.. I remember reading about a Dobermann Pinscher who was turned in by owner for aggression problems, with specific requests to put to sleep, and the dog was shuttled off to another shelter, many miles away. It was adopted by a woman there, and in two weeks time killed the new owner.

There are also other logistical reasons why dogs have to be put to sleep, sometimes. A kennel can not / should not try to keep more than their legal / logistical carrying limit. It only brings a lot of serious problems for the owner and it greatly reduces / limits the level of care for the other animals in the facility.

Get a clue, folks.. Every Pit Bull that bites someone is putting another nail in the coffin of it's own breed. No good to make excuses for it. Excuses don't get results, and results are all that matter, in the end.

The last communication I had with these people was that they were leaving with the dogs and would leave the door opened.  I was 5 minutes late getting there and everything was closed up, so I walked in.  The dog was about 5 steps above me and by the time I turned to go back out, he had me.  Their fault for knowing I was coming and they had not spoken to me directly.  She had called my cell earlier and I didn't get her message that they'd be late leaving.  Knowing that I was expected, and they hadn't spoken to me, they should have locked the door or crated the dog.  I should have knocked, to be on the safe side.  None of those happened and I got nailed.  Fault everywhere but with the dog.
