German Shepherd Leads Troopers to burning house.

weblogs.baltimoresun.com/features/mutts/blog/2010/04/go_buddy_go_dog_leads_rescuers.html

NBC (added):

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Buddy, the German Shepard, is getting a special honor today from Alaska State Troopers.

He's being given an engraved silver-plated dog bowl for being a canine hero.

Troopers say Buddy and his owner, 23-year-old Ben Heinrichs, were in the family workshop when a heater ignited some chemicals.

Heinrichs suffered minor injuries and told Buddy to get help.

The dog found a responding trooper and led him through the woods to the site of the fire.

While the workshop was destroyed, firefighters report the blaze only singed some window trim on the family home.

truly amazing.

It makes me wonder how did the dog understand what he was supposed to do!! But this proves that the GSD thinks for himself and makes reasoning, that added to the drive within to help his owner made him fetch the correct help. Wow!! What a wonderful companion, he is worth a million dollars.

At the last junction he posed a second for the trooper to make sure the trooper is following him.

Red Sable

It looked like he was out on the road, looking for help.Edit: ( OK, I just read the first post closer, and Ben told him to Go and Get Help, and he understood!!)  As soon as he saw a car turn his way, zoom, off he went in front.  It was nice of the trooper not to pass him as I'm sure they were in a rush.  I wonder how, or if,  they knew it was the mans dog.

Right out of The Littlest Hobo.  Very, very cool.

Thanks for posting this.  I saw a lead-in to the story this morning and thought it looked like a GSD but didn't see the story itself.  Truly amazing!
