Okay, talking about dogs! :D

Since I don't have any new pictures to share, I'll share an amusing story.

So I have an almost 9 month old working line male, who is big and goofy and a love bug, however he has one slightly annoying trait.

Every evening at almost exactly the same level of nightfall he starts to bark ... and bark and bark, none stop.  There is nothing out there for him to be barking at (well obviously there is something but I mean there are no other dogs out, no noises, anything like that).  We've had to take to bringing him inside as soon as it gets dark and walk him on a leash until bedtime.

It's not a fear back, he just runs his mouth as soon as the sun goes down.

Anyone else ever had a dog do this?

Personally I think he's yelling at the birds roosting in the trees.

I dont know where you live but i used to have the same problem. Couldnt ever figure out why until on day I just started watching. come to find out we had a fox coming in the yard every night about the same time. So it could just be something your not seeing. Who knows. its so hard to play investigator with thoe things sometimes. It took me about 3 months to realize it was a fox coming in every night.

I have so many nocturnal critters creeping around it could be a fox, racoon, possum, deer.

Unfortunately he has a deep, bellowing bark and our neighbors don't get quite as excited about it as I do.  What can I say, I hear it and visions of the bark and hold in his future make me giddy ... neighbors, just don't see it my way.

It could be that he has learned that if he barks he will get to come inside and go for a walk!  I don't know but the little buggers are smart!!!

Oh he's a smart cookie but giving up his 1/3 acre yard to be either on the end of a 4 foot leash or in his crate is not a good trade off. ;)

Lots of things are moving about at night these days, it is springtime! Could it be love is in the air? Just watch out for those skunks!

There could be something else going on that you're not aware of.  My dog does the "communication bark" (a long series of interlocking barks) sometimes in response to what must be another dog barking, but it's out of my hearing range.  I know exactly what this bark means because he only uses in response to other dogs (or coyotes barking/howling) when I can hear the precipitating incident.  So on the occasions when he does it and I can't hear what's setting him off, I know it's another dog (domestic or wild) in the distance.

I thought about that also Jackal because we do have lots of dogs around and you're right, it totally sounds like a communication bark rather than a case of "OMG RACOOON OUTSIDE THE FENCE!"

But why only at night?  He'll bark now and again during the day but I mean as soon as it gets dark about 8:00pm he goes off non-stop and he'll go for hours if left outside.

To be by people for sure he would give up acres.
