Take a look at this poor guy. Tyson arrived yesterday - 14 months old, large purebred, about 50 lbs. Yep, I said about 50 lbs. The pictures don't show how thin he actually is.  He should be @ 90 lbs probably.   He's even lost his muscle mass in his skull, shoulders, thighs - he is literally skin and bones, the thinnest dog I've ever laid my hands on.  I can put my hand around his shoulder scapula, and put my fingers inside his head where it's sunken in.... vet appt. today should give an idea of why he's in such terrible condition. I suspect EPI.   His owners told me he was healthy but "a little thin".    Despite his condition though, he's bright, friendly, playful and interested. He spent some time today leaping straight into the air after bees. Cute dog, hope I can find him a great home once he's in better shape.

Oh my goodness, he IS thin. .  He does look lively and full of fun.

I hope you find him a good home.  It was good of you to take him in.

Let us know how the vet appointment goes!

How do people look at that on a GSD and think "healthy"?  Maybe if he was a sloughi or something, but not a GSD.  If my dog was getting anywhere near that thin we would have been to the vet... multiple times!  It's great that you're going to get him checked out properly, and possibly get him a nice new home.

so the heartworm, lymes, and erlichea tests were negative - good news.  The EPI level, and fecal test were sent out and will be back in a few days.  meanwhile, he's getting fed good-quality food plus canned food plus enzymes/probiotics three times/day.  I'm hoping he will pick up weight quickly.

Holy crap Molly. You must have had a hard time keeping a straight face when you saw him.

Nice lady, but "a little thin"?  I just wanted her to leave, and get him into the kennel and fed, then to the vet asap.  I have never in my life seen a dog this thin, in person.

Not even Sophie?

Edited to add: Sophie was a dog Molly rescued from a Sam's Club parking lot with her 2 or 3 puppies. She was still nursing these 12+/- week old puppies and all of them were nothing but bones.

Molly thank you for helping this poor guy.  You are one of the good guys.

Sophie was close for sure - but no, Tyson is thinner.  Sophie and her pups were definately emaciated though.  hmmmm wonder if I have a picture of them -

Awww! Poor dogs....thanks for helping them, Molly. Can a dog have EPI without the cow-plop stools or other signs except malnutrition? Just wondering....thanks! jackie harris
