What color would you say this puppy is and what color do you think he will be as an adult. There really is no black on this puppy it is more like a faded slate grey on the saddle or blanket. He was born black and tan,but has lightened contiuosly since birth,he will be 13 wks tomorrow.

looks like a very light sable. He still has all his puppy coat, and if he is a sable, he will be ever changing. Are all his toe nails black? His is nose black or more dark greyish? Hard to guess from two pics. You could have a blue here, or could be genetic washed out color if both parents have black and tan linage. Check the pedigree and see if you possible have some whites in there, esp if from american linage.

just a blk/tan with washed out coloring. this isn't a blue or a sable.  he probably has some white ancestors too, I've seen quite a few colored pups out of white to colored breedings with this coloration.  he'll probably retain the black on his face but lose just about all the black on his back.  might look alot like a malinios coloring.

a very light sable at this age would be pretty much all tan,  wouldn't have the saddle.

Thanks for the replies, here are the links for the sire and dam.Maybe you will be able to evaluate a little better.Nails are more grey, but seem to be darkening.Nose is more of a dark slate rather then true black.

Black and tan dilute? Will probably mature to have very little black at all.

Since both parents are B/T it's a good guess that he'll be in that range, though from his puppy coloring probably no wheres near as dark as either parent.  Would suspect a fadeing gene present.  (In AKC show lines GV Reno was widely known to produce nice conformation/temperment pups, but also threw a lot of faded coat colors.  He has a fair amount of red on his head, but suspect that the saddle area will not be extensive.  Give him another month and you'll have a much better idea.  Think US TV Rin Tin Tin coloring... what we used to call Black and Silver (though it was more  cream)
