Okay, I just got this 2 yr old gal in today. She was left at the vet's and the former owner refused to answer calls or come and get his dog. She has huge sores on both her rear paws that the guy let fester and now infected and on medication. She is registered, but we will not be able to get the papers since he won't return phone calls, the vet was going to give her to the Dog Pound, but when I had called on a vet check for another adoption, the vet asked if I would take the girl. Of course I couldn't say no. Which I do need to learn to do for awhile...
Tessa is here and is very sweet, a bit on the shy side, maybe from abuse, maybe from non socialization. She does know her basic commands but seems a bit fearful. She is getting better in only a couple of hours. Here are some pics if anyone is interested...

I love the expression on this girl's face..Such a pretty girl.
I can't take on any other dogs, though, even though I would absolutely love to offer a foster home for some of these dogs. Oakley is all the extra work I can manage. She's doing really good, confident and outgoing as can be. No fear.

That's a "lick sore" or granuloma, on her foot. If you put an Elizabethan collar on her until it closes completely, it will heal in fairly short time. If you do nothing, she will continue to lick on it for months, until it looks like a crater. They can get really nasty looking. The dog can survive quite well with them, for upwards of a year or more. But, you really want it to heal. Unfortunately, they will just keep licking them and they will never heal.
You can also add some good fats to the diet, and that may help her coat and skin, so she may be less likely to chew herself again. I would recommend a mixture of lard and corn oil, maybe with some granulated lecithin added (if you can find it). Otherwise, lard and mayonaise is good.

Poor Steph, to the rescue again! Bless your kind, kind heart.
Tessa is a sweet looking girl and pretty too. Surely she won't be hard to place. I have to wonder if she chewed on herself out of boredom. Sounds like someone didn't want the responsibility of taking care of her, so chances are she was kept crated alot. Thanks Steph, for taking her in and for all you do that we ourselves are unable to do.

DDR Thanks,
I had to take the elizabethian collar off to take the photos. One of her paws was still wrapped from the vets the other is open. She is scared at any loud noise I make and when I call her she flattens her ears, tucks her tail and comes cringing....Darn I hate people sometimes...She really is a sweet girl...
I was amazed that she stood so good for the photos...
