Question re: weight control for a pregnant bitch - Page 1

Hello all,


Does anyone have any good suggestions for keeping a pregnant bitch from gaining too much weight?
I think she may be gaining too much right now, and I don't want her to have a rough labor. I didn't have this problem last time, but changed to TOTW Pacific Stream and now feed about 2 cups twice a day. Pre prego I was feeding about 1 1/2 cups twice a day. She is at day 38 after breeding and her normal weight is about 67-68 lbs. I would guess right now she is at about 75ish now.   Is it safe to cut back, or should I just continue what I am feeding? She just looks fat to me......, not just prego but a bit fat....

i would not cut back her food, 75 pounds is not too bad at all, she really going to start pilling on the weight soon.
i have a a 68 pound female and she got up too 80 -- 82 pounds which was fine for her.
she is going to need alot of fat for after she has those babbies.

Move more, eat less.
Exercise is good for her.
Instead of adding bulk , add some goodies to what your already feeding.
Don't make a lot of changes in her diet, keep it simple.

What kind of "goodies" do you recommend using? I sometimes give scrambled eggs or chicken....
Maybe add some puppy food? Is that necessary to add with a food like TOTW?
