This past weekend was the OG Edgerton Club show and Breed Survey in WI.  I just wanted to say how proud I am of all my fellow club members (Indian Creek SchH Club) who participated this weekend.  Everyone worked very hard over the past few months to be able to go out there and prove that working lines can get in the ring with the show lines and look just as good.  I am so proud of everyone and all of our hard work deffinitely paid off.  And special thanks to Carlos and Robin Huerta who gave their time to help us turn our working dogs into show dogs, even if it was just for one weekend, we couldn't have done it without you, you did and excellent job teaching and handling.  Also thanks to the hosting club for running such a well organized event.

All the dogs from our club went SG or better.  Here is the run down for the show.

And then to top it all off and bring the weekend to an amazing conclusion both Gabe v Geistwasser and Boy v Zorra became KKL1 on Sunday under USA Judge Johannes Grewe!!!

Here is a brief video of Gabes bitework and critique from the breed survey.

Why does it suprise so many that a working dog can show I,m sure there are many more that can do well as long as the judge uses the criteria as stated and not as desired by personnel opinion, I,m sure there are far more Working line that can show then show lines that can work to criteria.

Awesome news! I don't know why anyone would think that a dog MUST be black and red to make "V" conformation and kkl1. Plenty of good workingline dogs have good conformation. Thanks for sharing this!

Herr Grewe made it a point to show that yes, there are great conformation show lines out there.  I have a lot more respect for him than ever before after this last weekend.  He took a stand, not only towards Boy but also towards Fabian von Mittelwest.

His words, paraphrased, working dogs can show and show dogs can work, IF WE AS THE OWNERS TAKE THE TIME TO TRAIN THEM TO DO BOTH!

Its not just the dogs folks, its US.  Our prejudices and mental barriers that need to be torn down.  We have created this divide and we can destroy it.

Support Boy at the Sieger Show!   This dog has it, owners that see it and are willing to cross that line to bring him to the Sieger Show.   I only hope that all the show people are generous with their support and sportsmanship for this dog.

Jody  well said, could not have said it any better myself.  I also want to thank Carlos and Robin for all their help and excellent ring training skills. Our club had a great weekend and look forward to many more in the future.

Bob, it is not that people are surprised that workinglines can do very well in the show ring it  is all about taking the time to train for the ring. Most people don't take the time needed and then are upset their dog did not do well and proceed to say this judge does not like workinglines.  When you go into the showring give the judge the respect and have your dog trained and ready.

Thanks everyone for all the positive feedback.  Of course all working lines "can" show.  We shouldn't be surprised to hear of working lines with good structure.  But not all working lines present well in the ring.  As a club consisting of all working line dogs we feel that working lines should prepare for the show ring just as we prepare for a trial.  How can we in good conscious criticize show lines for not being prepared for a trial when we go into the show ring with little to no training, jumping, barking, refusing to be stacked...  Whether we like it or not "all" gsd's are required to obtain titles and show ratings and we, as handlers/owners owe it to our dogs and the breed to have them well prepared for both.  Our club spent a significant amount of time preparing for the show.  We were lucky enough to have the help of Carlos and Robin Huerta who came out 2x a week and spent their time teaching us the proper way to stack each dog to present them in the best light and get them used to it.  They worked with us on how to handle and double handle.  They critiqued all of our dogs so that we could understand their structure, strengths and weaknesses.  They taught us techniques that we could do on our own to prepare our dogs for the times that we didn't have a partner to practice with.  And most importantly that were wonderful people who guided and supported us.  We had the success that we did this weekend not just because we have well bred, pretty dogs but largely in part to the hard work that we as owners put into their ring training and all the hard work that Carlos put into training us.  As a club we feel it is very important for the breed as a whole and specifically for working line gsds to be able to present well on the trial field and the show ring and with this in mind we intend to host a seminar over the summer with Carlos Huerta to teach proper ring training/handling/showing techniques geared towards the working lines.  Please stay tuned to http://indiancreekschutzhund.com/site/ as plans are made and details are posted
