Thanks VM, it says "The GSD withers are higher than and sloping into the level back. The back is straight, very strongly developed without sag or roach.......¨ so people do look for high withers ideally, but I have seen roach backs in some SL and sagging backs in some WL dogs!! Both would be considered faults. I think the sloping topline in German show dogs is sometimes exaggerated by the show pose, when standing and walking normally it is not usually so noticeable. From what I have seen It is much more extreme in the Amreican show lines who seem to have their hocks on the ground and a completely vertical upper arm giving them an extremely sloping back and a very strange type of movement - these are the ones that look like triangles to me!
I think that in German showlines extreme rear angulation and cow hocks are starting to be more severely penalized now - it has always been a fault but one that seems to have been ignored somewhat at times.

OSO: "the level back".....exactly. And what a rare bird that is, too.
Travels: You like all those piled up posts? What does that, anyway? Was it me slurring when I hit "submit comment"? (hic)
