Gee, Jen, maybe you're just one of those people like me that dogs naturally like and you have a healthy respect for them and their space, treat them fairly and give them time to learn to trust you. There are few dogs in my experience who won't come around eventually if you're kind and patient.

I didn't mean for my comment to start a big debate. Just that Tarek had mentioned he had shown aggression before and it seems his kennel guy is experienced and probably did not provoke the attack.
I hope everything works out for Good Boy at the new kennel.

Nice job, Sturdy. Really did it this time!
Keith.... I think the key is healthy respect for them and their space. The more comfortable a dog is, the less space it takes. With a new dog (and I consider any dog "new" if I've had them less than a few mos. ) I give them a lot of space.
Tarek, I'm not criticizing you personally; this is just a story that I hear over and over and I don't see why these incidents couldn't be prevented w/some extra care and caution.

Yes, i have heard of these so called Dog whisperers, having handled dogs of all breeds for 60 years i too know what is what, and i for one has never said this dog was dangerous I said he would not remeber Tarek as he was 3 years earlier. The Dog also knew the Kennel fellow 3 years earlier but it did not stop him biting and so it could have happened with Tarek had he been around the dog a lot in the time he was in the Kennel this time
Of course Dogs need time to acclimatise thats natural but this dog did just the same as the Dog i mentioned did in an earlier post, Personally for me somthing snapped in its brain at that particular time, it may not happen again yet it may, certainly the dog is of an unstable nature, and who knows how it acts all the time with its real owner Hoever the Dog is better off with its real owner all the speculation will not bear any fruit at all, lets hope the dog settles without any more problems

Look closely at the arm of this person forget the red graze but look at the near 3 year old scar on the forarm it looks like an up side down Y, about 16 stitches to close it up done withouit any warning from the dog no sound, bite and sat no reason for doing that to its handler since an 8 week old Pup yet people say they know how a dogs mind works, NO one knows how a dogs mind works they only think they do, By the way that is Izzy Bitch in the Pic

You're missing our points, Steve. No one has proclaimed to be a dog whisperer- actually, on the contrary. I'm not a dog psychic, so I exercise caution. Simple.
FWIW, I will go to my grave contending that there are ALWAYS signs that are missed before a dog bites. Yes, there are nutcase dogs just like there are nutcase people. Part of being a capable and competent handler is to heed THOSE signs as well.

VomRuiz, no debate; I just think there could have been a better outcome had it been handled differently. I question, however, the experience of a kennel helper who would enter the enclosure of a new arrival with the dog in it. Dogs 101...never a good idea.
There is no such thing as a dog whisperer, Steve, just experience and common sense.
Forgot to mention it earlier, Jen...it's always noteworthy when you can use the word 'uber' in a post...it's like...uber cool.

Tarek,
So sorry that it turned out like this. I think you did what you had to do.
Still, it is sad. He did remember you but there are others to consider.

did you look at that Guys arm that dog was sat quiet at his side, whist they were talking and he was using a chain collar he did not need a pinch collar on the dog he was super Obed, and attentive, Then he was up bit and sat down again if you blinked you would have missed it
However i will now finish the story
After around 5 weeks went by and talking to the breeder he said could he take hin back and work him after agreeing with him as he had been training these dogs for 25 years we took him over to him My brother was not capable of handing him with one hand
So the dog got used to him he took him on the Cycle to get him interested he did his tracking well and he was great on Protection as he always was He was going to get him ready for his 3, The Dog settled down and looked to him as his master, Then he said to me he was really happy with the way the dog worked and he was a very good prospect that i already knew
He sent this email to me in the dinner time one day
5 hours later he phoned me to say an bad accident had happened, He had the Dog in an enclosed fenced area where he let him play and played with him with his ball, He said he left the paddock to get something he went back in, and threw the ball for the dog he fetched it and dropped the ball he was standing there then all of a sudden the Dog Charged the Guy and grabbed his hand, Now this guy is 6ft 5; tall built like a shed but he could not get the dog to let his hand go, he wrestled the dog to the ground and was shouting for his daughter she came in and tried to force his jaws open after a bit the fellow got away, He grabbed the leash and the dog was snarling and lunging at his legs and arms and bundled him into his Kennel and run
He said the Dog was smashing against the fence trying to get at him, He threw some meat inside with a dose of tranquilizers but to no effect, His daughter had already called for the vet with his hand pouring with blood still, The Vet came right out but the Dog was still throwing himself at the sides of the Pen so they called a guy with a Pole and noose to get hold of the Dog to give it a sedative it still did not really calm down so the Vet said the best thing was to put him to sleep, It was not until this had all been done only then did the Guy go to the hospital where they stitched up his Hand and Wrist. So there was two unprovoked attacks from this beautiful Dog
To say i was upset was not the word for it, Had he phoned me i would have gone the 350 miles to pick him up again then i would have had tests done but when you look at reality how could the guy think of letting us know whist all that was going on, The Vet did the best thing perhaps he should have had a post Mortem done but who thinks of that when there is so much upheaval and problems plus the Guy was in tears when he was put down In fact he told me It nearly caused him to finish with Dogs altogether he was that upset only his wife told hin to not do it
So only a test would have showed if the dog had a health problem in his head which caused him to turn The Dog idolized my brother, he was never from his side, Personally i think he had a problem of which he had no control of perhaps he got a pain in his head which turned him we will never know But i think of him always to us he was a great dog and my brother did what he thought was best for him and i think it was for the Guy was a very good Trainer with dogs, These things happen and they do not always have happy endings but it is us the owners who remember so they are never forgotten, i know this old Lad never will
