If I were a 120 pound gsd I would not listen to you either.
You want me to walk way over there?

Trim the dog down by 20 pounds.

That will help, he has been indulging himself in a bit too much kibble

Hey triodegirl,
My boy Duke does that every now and than. For the most part, whatever he is doing, when I call him, he is there. There have been a few times that he does exactly what your dog does. He acknowledges me calling him, flips me off, and hits the ground and refuses to come.
I figure he just don't want to come in yet,(after all, Dogs just want to have fun too). I go out and get him. i demand he heel and make him come in. Than I let him right back out the door 'after' he came in. He just wants to stay outside.Who can blame him.
I don't think there is anything wrong with your dog.Duke does it in the house sometimes. I call him to put him in his crate, and he literally hides his face behind the pillows on the couch. Thinks I can't see him !
I always make him do what I say, but than I let him go back to having fun. I won't punish him for just wanting to socialize.
For the most part, it's seconds for them to appear. They KNOW they don't want me to come get them!
I have a huge fenced back yard that I can't always see the dogs. I just give a yell, when they come I tell them OK, go on back and do what your doing.
I think your dog is just telling you he'd rather stay out!

Troublelinx, the dog actually weighed 114 lbs at his last vet visit and 10 lbs of that was hair  :-)

Kitkat, what you are saying makes sense. I don't really want to use a prong collar but was hoping maybe someone had a similar experience and found a solution other than dragging the dog across the yard. Right now the treats are working better than expected. This morning Trigger just about knocked me over coming in the house. Then he wants to go right back out again. I'm going to have to cut those hot dogs in to smaller pieces.
