Well I had a goldfish that did! Jumped right out of the bowl and didn't even leave a note. He seemed so happy. We never saw it coming. :(

Perhaps you forgot to change it's water and it was trying to get some fresh air.
Or possibly it was watching public television and wanted to swim with the salmon.

Do birds and animals love there own the same way as humans, i think they do not only dogs but Pigeons as well
I had an old Male pigeon he had been a great racer and producer of winners right up to National level winning a National himself however he lived to a good old age above normal he was 25 years old and this particular cold winter of years ago i made him a little section in the block corn store thinking he would be better off in there out of the cold, and i put his hen mate in with hin
They were happy for a couple of months then one morning i opened the shed door to see something i have not seen in 60 years of keeping pigeons
The Old Male was laying down as if asleep. His Hen was covering him as she would a clutch of eggs on the nest you could only see the part head and beak of the old Male i opened the door she never moved from him, I pushed her off and she resisted, but i saw the old Male was dead very strange his hen was trying to keep the old Lad warm
So after a day i took her out of the shed and put her back in the loft 5 days later i found her dead on the floor of the loft just sitting in the corner but dead, Did she pine for her old mate and give up that hen was only 4 years old
All animals have feelings but not i think to commit suicide they may pine away like above, it is something we will never know

I know a lot in "no kill" warehouses that wish they could!

Steve, that's a touching story. Having birds myself, I have had a similar experience in our parrot aviary. Birds can form such an intense bond with their mates for life, that it seems similar to humans where one elder spouse dies and the other goes not too long after.

Maybe some are warehouses, but here's the No-Kill in my neighborhood-- Wether it's right or wrong, being no-kill is the way they get donations, many people won't donate to a shelter that euthanizes.  Hardly a warehouse!

They stay in suites, here's one Oprah designed in honor of her passed dog Sadie

Cat rooms with perches and baskets by the windows
Rooftop astroturf deck

And they have hundreds of volunteers, they are always walking them around the neighborhood outside.

If dogs can commit suicide, no I don't think so.  They can have depression, and I think animals have stopped eating, starved to death in response to depression or loss, but "suicide" is more of a concious decision to die and I don't think they do that.

I've never had a dog, or any other pet, that 'just gave up', & I've had some sad rescues that needed a lot of stimulation to bring them out again, but I work at a Hospice, & I can tell you the story of a little fuzzball that lived with a lady who eventually died of cancer. Her nurses & social workers helped her find a place for 'Fuzzy', a kind soul who would take the little mixed poodle in when her person passed on. All good, right? Wrong. Fuzzy would not eat. Vet visits followed, subcutaneous fluids were given, they tried excersize, another pet, everything they could think of.....but to no avail. Fuzzy died 6 weeks later, of a broken heart, I'm sure. No, not suicide. But a very strong will, & broken heart. jackie harris
