hey all!
Thanks for everyone's concern and wishes. My dog is feeling better now, the bleeding has stopped but he's a little less hungry than before. The vet says its more cuz of the injections, iron tonics etc. Its today that he's gonna get his second shot for the tick fever. The vet is visiting my place. But I am still a little worried for the day it starts happening again.
The other vet who was recommended for the 2nd opinion, advised me that he might want to see the dog at his other clinic for a couple of xrays n other stuff if the situation doesnt get better. The vet yesterday told me it was too late for a blood sample and was necessary to give the shots n not waste anymore time. Although max is better now, I still think I should go for a blood sample and get it tested for any viral infections.
Thanks again.
Will keep you guys posted.

I am so glad to read these posts. Our dog is a part german mostly mut who has survived to about 18 years. This morning we woke up to so much blood on the back stoop we couldn't believe he was walking around. I can't imagine there being any other solution than putting him down. My husband wants him to die of natural causes but if he is suffering... you know.
Anyways, everything I have read says bloody noses/tumors etc can be treated, but he is so old I just can't see putting him through anything stressful. It just made me feel like such a bad person that we were thinking this would be his last day.

Hi getjennybean, 18 yrs is a great life for a dog. You have nothing to feel bad about. My thoughts are with you.

I know this is an old thread. I assume the dog is gone by now. If he was really 18 years old, that was just amazing, in itself. Blood loss in itself would not be a bad way to go. The dog would just feel woozy and sort of fade to black.
Vitamin K has the clotting agent and is found in dark, leafy greens. You can give some, flash cooked and mashed, in small quantities, added to the food. Collards, turnip greens, mustard greens, spinach, all should work, but cook with as little water as possible and include the water. Do not overcook. Heat destroys vitamins, and most of the vitamins in veggies are water soluble and will stay in the cooking water, if you use too much, especially.
I've also had good luck with aloe vera gel or juice, and / or a tea of certain kinds of leaves or roots of herbs that contain allantoin, known to promote healing. I had a bitch, once, who was hemorrhaging from the lower intestine (possibly a hemorrhoid, but vet said it was parvovirus),and passing LARGE amounts of clotted blood. I gave her a tea (I remember it was comfrey root, but several herbs would do, if they contain sufficient levels of allantoin). The bleeding stopped within a half an hour and did not return.
Green tea also seems to have some really good tonic and protective properties and can be given whenever there is a malaise. Dogs are not vegetarians, per se, because they cannot break down the cellulose plant cell walls, but wild canids and carnivores will often eat some of the stomach contents of their prey, taking advantage of the predigested plant matter.
