Mine don't work at any "job", they're my companions first and foremost, but we just do sports otherwise.

Personal protection and now that I am living at my friends that is above the gun shop the dogs alert to people that shouln't be on the property at night. They seem to know during the day it is ok...but at night they are all on alert. Also they are great companions and hiking partners. All of them have a good nose and we do some tracking for fun and to keep them sharp...just need someone to get lost to use their tracking skills for real. Hmmm maybe i will tell my friend to go get lost after we fly his hawk today and I will have Dar find him.

Since I have stopped working one of mine in sport, and PP, he has become a fantastic family protector, a natural if you ask me. He seems to have woke up one day and decided he was going to take his prevous training and use it for his home. He is fantastic with the kids, and is with them "watching" them when I am not home. He is very serious about his new job.

P.S. I also use him to round up the goats and put them back in their pen.

i have always made jokes that the only showdog on the place is the only true working dog.  www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/548486.html  ofcourse, i am just joking, but axel has proven himself time and again in the herding capacity.  for those of you who know anything at all about goats, you know how intelligent and how stubborn they can be making it no small task.  besides that, we have boer goats with the bucks weighing in over 350# and the does over 200#.  so much for the pretty boy.  most of the others we have are training or have trained for sport......so they are just fun dogs.  in the past, we have sold dogs for security and personal assistance.  one of our females went to a disabled man, wheelchair bound, that relied on sales for income.  she was trained to ring doorbells since he could not reach them.  we have not bred any dogs for a number of years, but i am thinking about having one litter later this year and will probably be a combination of sport and security dogs.

The most unusual  and hardest working one I have is a working catch dog- for mink and foxes full time, but occasionally large animals. Any of you ever caught a mink in your mouth?! He has the grit of a catch dog, too. He won't let go until the escapee is returned to the owner, regardless of how hard the thing is fighting him.  He outsmarts foxes and returns them unharmed as well. The owner of the farm has never had to treat an animal for any wounds inflicted by this dog-he is careful and understands his job fully. The coolest thing is he was never trained; he was newly acquired and was just being familiarized with the animals and the layout of the farm when he simply observed a few escapes and the chaos that ensued trying to catch the critters, and one day, the owner decided all was just about lost, so why not send the dog. He acted like he'd done it his whole life! Somehow he knew to bring them back unharmed.  Yesterday he rounded up and returned 30 elk that had knocked  down a fence. When he's not working, he's a fetch buddy for a 4 and 6 yr old.

THIS is the kind of versatility and superb temperament I think we are losing and one of the reasons I decided to start breeding.  People don't even believe me when I tell them he does all this, and they NEVER believe me when I tell them he was never trained- just watched and learned. A combination of a clear head, balanced drives, superior intelligence, herding instinct, and a general desire to work for his master all came together on this one and IMO, we need more like him.

Ok, done bragging now, lol.

1) 7yr male GSD - Estate and personal protection as well as holding down the couch when not working. haha. so i guess i can call him dual purpose.  Very serious yet descriminative dog whom adores children.

2) 2 yr male GSD czech/west german ( Yoshy http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/641708.html  ) certified and employed trailing dog- finding people and animals. PSA , and beleive it or not working him as a field retriever to hunt over.
Extremely bright with significant prey instinct yet biddable and great confirmation. Loves everything unless given a reason not too.

3) 9 month female Mali belgium- will be following in Yoshy's foot steps for trailing duties and PSA.
All drive. Balls to the wall but execellent turn off when in crate. Very territorial yet social.
