Sorry this is late, but I just read about it this AM. Today, in Sacremento, there will be an AKC seminar addressing opposing the pending legislature that will require, among other things, mandatory neutering of dogs and cats over 4 months of age.

I live in PA, but have lots of dog friends in CA and to say they are upset is the understatement of the year. Most of you may have already exrpessed your opposition to this bill. If not, you might want to contact you representatives. It's all on the net. I have the link; if anyone needs it I"ll look it up and post it. This is a very, very bad bill and will for all intents and purposes prevent dog breeding and showing in CA robbing all residents of that state of their civil rights. The only events that will be opne to purebred dogs will be those that allow neutered dogs to participate and there will be no more breeding allowed period.

This will be a landmark decision and the results will have a sweeping effect on the entire dog world in the US, all breeds will be effected. We won't have to worry about getting our dogs into camprounds, we won't have any.

Bad news - this bill passed the appropriations committee today and will  now go to the CA state senate for their vote. It's not too late to contact your senator and try to convince him or her to vote against this bill. Otherwise all CA residents will be out of the dog breeding business. If this bill passes it will set a horrible precedence for dog breeders in every state.

Blitzen, do you know the name of the bill? I Typed CAlifornia State Senate into my web search browser and have email addresses and phone numbers to all of them. Should be easy enough to type up a letter and forward it to all of them.

The bill is "AB 1634" :-(

I just read that one of the appropriation committee who vote "yes" said he did so because he is a vegetarian. Another genius making dog laws. The vote was 9 to 7 and was bi-partisan.

Anyone can express their dislike of this bill, AB 1634. Petitions are on the net. This is serious stuff. Don't think it can't happen in your state.

Something wrong either with your info or mine, Mat. Mine said:

".........AB 1634 made it out of the Appropriations Committee by a vote of 9-7 and this time is was not a party line vote. Two democrats expressed opposition and voted "no" along with the five Republicans on the committee".

Those Democrats were identified as Fiona Ma and Anna Caballero.
