I feed my dogs prepackaged raw food from the pet store and have had excellent results. One of my friends raises pigs and is getting ready to slaughter several of them. I could get an excellent deal on some raw pork but am concerned because of the parasite trichinosis ( I know I misspelled it!). I have heard that this is no longer a problem in pigs. Does anyone have any info?

The only thing I know is trichinosis is also a problem in bear and if you kill one you have to get the meat tested if you bring it to the butcher for processing. I am not sure where they test it but could find out tomorrow if interested. Of course it would be for the state of Montana but you would think if they test here there must be someplace everywhere that can test for it.

This link is from the CDC & is all about trichinosis.  I know logically that the chances are slim to none that you would catch this from raw pork, but I'm old & some habits die hard, so I just can't bring myself to feed raw pork!

Grocery store pork is fine, I would be more cautious about farm raised or at least would be freezing it for a period of time. And I don't have anything to back that up with except for a raw feeding mentor told me that and I can't remember the specifics of "why", sorry! My dogs are absolutely nuts for pork so they seem thrilled with me bringing home those nice big roasts for them when they're on sale. Pork is definitely a big hit around here, and I prefer to offer them red meat more often than poultry and it gives me an added easy-to-get source besides beef.

Oh, yeah, and I'm totally green with envy...no one I know raises pigs :)

There was a medium sized farm in the mid-west that recently had their hogs tested positive for that.  Put under quarenteen and sold them anyway, big court case in progress  Freezing does not kill the organism that cause that problem, only heat does.  Pork and bear are the two meats I would not feed Raw.
