We have just been refused a campsite at the Holiday Travel RV Park in Emerald Isle, NC because we own a GSD.

That is so stupid!

The German Shepherd is on the top of the list for worst dogs to have if your trying to buy home owners insurance. Most Companys will not issue you a policy in the state of new jersey ,and a lot of other states.

The GSD listed on top with the Pit Bull and Rottweilers!!! Unbeleivable

Blitzen ,

You've got to be kidding me! You weren't allowed to camp at the Holiday Travel RV Park in Emerald Isle because you own a GSD.. how pathetic is that!

If you want to develop a national and/or international boycott, let me know. I'll help spread the word around.

SO Ridiculous - GRRRrrrr!

by Blitzen on 13 May 2007 - 23:05

I've contacted the GSDCA and emailed the park expressing my disappointment that they would ban a breed that has served police departments, acted as service dogs, leader dogs for the blind, gave their lifes at Ground Zero and are currently serving in Iraq.

If any of you want to join me in urging them to enforce their existing rules and stop allowing dogs to roam free in their campground and ban the deed, not the breed, their email addy is:

htpresort@mynetrocks.com

I will be copying local police departments, any dog trainers I can find on the net, the Emerald Isle Better Business Bureau, the Good Sam's Cub, ADOA, and anyone else I can possibly think of. If I shold be copying anyone else, please let me know. Emerald Isle is the southern most island in the Outer Banks chain.

This same thing happened to us 5 years ago at a KOA in NY state. I raised hell, contacted the central office of the KOA and stressed that unless they have a dog expert on staff they are not going to know which dogs are purebred GSD's and which are mixes or a breed that looks similar. Again, enforce your existing dog rules and ban the deed, not the breed. They later condenscended and now allow GSD's in their campground, so we can make a difference now and then. The GSDCA also got involved and some of those member alsoe wrote letters to this campground. It's all about money as usual.

There are many other campgrounds in the Emerald Isle area that allow dogs of all breeds, so it's no big deal to me, I'll go somewhere else. It just seems to me that we need to try to stop breed specific bans.

Anyway, thanks for reading this.

Count me in. I use to take mine, now board them.. Yuck. How do they expect them to be good citizens, if they do not allow them in public??

As a family reunion we take on 13 sites every year at a site in San Diego at Thanksgiving. Rod Crew's Rottie bit my daughter years ago, he was going for the bike that was going by and she got between him and the bike while walking. It was minor, I think the dog realized what was what at the last minute and just broke the skin. We got signed autographs all weekend. We did not report it. But I heard that another incident happend after that with another rottie. They are now banned. I find this not fair to the responsible owners. I see pitts in there all the time, they just give the breed a new name! My Mom just about has heart failure at leaving Jewel home, so with my folks being elder and My Mom having a metal rod up her back and neck and screwed together from a drunk driver 20 years ago, we are just going to put a service title on her. She is an awsome Rottie, with the clearest head and devoted to my folkes. This is funny,  My Dad was in Hospital 2 weeks ago, Mom brought Jewel in to visit him, thru the long hallways, 2 elevators and pass countless nurses, wheelcharis, gurneys. then when Dad was transfered to a convelesent for 1 week, she went there to visit. Nothing bothers this dog, uless you threaten her family. I have NO doubt she would take anyone apart, and I mean apart, no 1 bite. And I remember the survey we did awhile back on what would your dog do. This is one dog that should be cloned because of her tempermant, strong edge with so MUCH CONFIDENCE. (I do not know if any of you remember the story of me peeling Mom out of the car for training, but she is the same dog!)

Also added my 2 cents in an e-mail to them. I would also let the USA clubs in that area know. CH
