Hi all,

Is it possible to have a black puppy with only Black and Tan and Black and Red in the background?

Thanks.

Black puppies only with BOTH parents carrying black recessive.  So if BOTH parents have a black recessive, which must be carried to them through their parents or grandparents - yes.  If either parent has black in their background, then no.  Black puppies come from EACH parent giving the puppy one black color gene.  If the pup gets one or no black color gene, then it will not be black.

OK thank you. I just found this breeder who has a black male for sale for about $2000, no titles, no OFA, no DNA, his dad is the only black dog in the pedigree, and I thought it was a little hard for his dad to come out black with nothing but black/tan dogs behind him. But wouldn't you know, none of the dogs have OFA or DNA. I was not interested in this dog, it is just funny to know what people are capable of doing.
