Just interested in some opinions on a couple of questions. Generally what age do most of you see the males begin to cock their legs when peeing, and secondly do any of you notice that with this behaviour change, attitude or even some other behavioural characteristics arise or are evident? It seems to me that the cocking of legs indicates sexual maturity and therefore dog starts to depart from happy go lucky pup to more easily irritated adult male, and slightly more aggresive. Just interested on thoughts. Thanks

I was told before not to let you bitch be serviced by a dog who does not cock his legs... As much as possible, he should consider servicing as work and he should perform the work expected of him...
Although a dog does this to mark territory and to broadcast his presence...and some females does it too but not raising their legs (probably because they dont have balls hanging between the legs...) :)

My spayed female used to raise her leg sometimes. It looked pretty funny. I had her spayed after her first heat, as she was a stray, and I had no way of knowing if she'd been spayed.

I'm wondering more and more about this sexual maturity stuff too lately. MY boy can't seem to put his lipstick away. Right now at 7 months, he isn't lifting his leg to pee yet, not humping my leg but dominant in every other possible way. I am wondering when the real aggression will come? He is already such a pushy, jerk, I'm not sure I need more with his maturing. LOL
Right now he still knows he is a pup and respects the adult dogs. When does this usually change? I'm worried one day I will walk out to the kennel and he will be a different dog.

I don't think it has to do with sexual maturity either, not so much,it might sometimes.
I had a male who was aggressive and sexually mature long before he lifted his leg to pee.

My male is 15 months old and still squats when he pees. I have always owned females, and this is my first male.
Any idea when?

My FEMALES lift their legs to pee... from about 4 mos. on.
Hence the kennel name "Frauengarten."
