Folks,
I would appreciate some info on how much land is required for a club-level SchH field, and how much acreage is needed for tracking fields. My family has 127 acres of hilly, wooded land that we're going to build our new home on, and my husband and I want to clear some land for a SchH field and tracking fields.
Unfortunately the property is mostly hilly, and when he asked me how flat a SchH field and tracking fields need to be for a club trial, I didn't know what to tell him. I also didn't know how many acres we'd need cleared to be able to track a few dogs.
Are there any regulations on the "flatness" of the field? Again, this is club level only. We're going to start timbering sections of the farm this summer and I need to get the right information.
Thanks!
Yvette

Hi Yvette
a field size of approx.180 feet wide by 300 feetlong would be a nice size field ,it should be flat . Tracking can be rolling hills there is no requirement that say's fields must be flat, for tracking

Our clubs trial field is on 3 acres, its a nice size.
Tracking?? well that depends on how many tracks you're laying and what size. IMO the more the merrier, except for when you have to mow, lol.
Not sure if there's regulations on flatness but your helper will appreciate if you could get it as flat as possible, I don't think its much fun dragging a dog up hill on the escape. Not to mention safety for the helper and the dog. The flatter the better, get the trial field leveled with heavy equipment if you can. Tracking doesn't need to be very level but keep in mind its difficult to track on the crest of a hill with your dog 30' ahead of you and you can't see whats ahead of him.

Our field is flat on about the last 2/3 and goes up hill for the send out and where blinds 1 and 2 sit. This seems to work pretty well. I have seen some small fields used at club trials. Figure 1-2 acres.
Tracking is what eats up the land. I was told 3.5 acres per SchH3 track. So for a club trial you may need 35 acres and that doesn't include doing FH.
