Is there anything that can be done about shedding? My 14 month old GSD sheds CONTINUOUSLY! It seems everytime I have vacuumed everything, he is already getting hair everywhere again. I have been grooming him atleast every other day, however he is still on a commercial dog food diet but is supplemented with olewo carrots.
Is there anything that can be done? Or is this just what he is going to do? I mean is there anyway to even minimize the shedding at all?
Thanks.

That's why they call 'em German Shedders. Seriously I've never owned any breed of dog that sheds as much as my GSD's have.
A grooming tool called a Furminator works as good as anything, just follow the directions as it can be damaging if used too vigorously. I've not found nay supplements that make any difference, maybe someone else can help us both out on that one.

Click on the above link. I recently purchased one of these grooming tools called the "furminator" and in one word to describe "AMAZING" I bought the medium tool under $40 (U.S.) and its available in most Petsmart etc., Every German Shepherd owner should have one. I LOVE it!!!

It also depends a bit on the individual dog. My two female shepherds both shed like crazy, two major sheds, spring and fall. Then I got my male, and for the second spring in a row, I am NOT up to my eyeballs in hair!
You know, if this is genetic, someone should seriously try to fix the characteristic in the breed! (Too bad my boy's not registered, and he had to be neutered anyway, due to an enlarged prostate.)

All that hair we're cursing about now is what keeps them comfy when it's 8 degrees out in January.

My male has a gorgeous thick, shiny coat. When he was an outdoor dog, in his previous home, he'd shed like crazy in the spring. Nothing abnormal about his coat at all. It's just that now he's mainly an indoor dog, HE DOES NOt SHED in the spring, while my previous dogs, under the same circumstances, DID.

It would be great if someone would find a profitable use for all this hair ...I'd be a millionaire.....

ALL dogs shed, some more than others .. in our case they have the undercoat which they "blow" 2x a year, along with lots of guard hairs too.. but they shed every single day of their lives!!
You have one and you're amping out?? try 7!!

LOL...7 GSD's sound like a lot of dog hair to me.
The experts say that shedding is influenced by the number of daylight hours vs the number of nighttime hours. The longer days being the triggers no matter where you live. This is in reference to the "normal" annual shedding patterns of most dogs, not the on-going shedding that seems to be unique to the GSD.
I knew some pro handlers who used to keep their dogs inside a dark building so they held their coats when they were being campaigned. You can also feed your dogs a very small amount of arsenic and that too will prevent them from shedding. It's another old AKC trick. I'd rather clean up the hair.
Right now Blitz is dropping his undercoat in big chunks; the birds are following him everywhere.

It is a TON of dog hair and I go thru more vacuum cleaners than most normal people too.. I would like to provide test data for the companies if they really want to test their machines!!
My Heating and A/C company has to replace the filter on the special whole house unit we put on the furnace usually twice a year!!
If it wasn't hair, it would be something else!!
