I have some idea of what is PETTLAR LUXATION but for all of us can you exactly describe the physical condition. That would enhance our knowledge.

He will probably need surgery. Hasn't this already been discussed just a few days ago?

PATELLAR luxation (to give it the correct spelling) is dislocation of the patella, or kneecap. And yes, this same person posted about this topic a couple of days ago. Surgery is the only remedy. The ligaments will probably need to be reconstructed, and the puppy will have to have its activity severely limited after surgery until the knee heals. My mom's Springer pup needed cruciate ligament reconstruction after he fell off their back deck. (Same joint, slightly different problem.) He's had a long, happy life since then, with no lameness, except for some arthritis now that he's 13 years old.

Why don't you just accept the advice that's been given you? It is NOT going to change, and no medicine in the world is going to heal the joint! You will just be wasting your money on some quackery!

Hello Everyone, Can you please give the reasons for having PATELLAR luxation. skywalker why your puppy is facing this problem. Did puppy met with an accident? Sunsilver after surgery does a dog go back to being normal? Can the dog be entered in show after such surgery? Thank You.

I am only familiar with cruciate ligament surgery, which is much more common. Knee problems are very common, and are often the result of an injury, eg, like happened with my mom's dog. Anyway, I just googled to get more info, and apparently patellar luxation is pretty common, and can be congenital. Here's a link to what the OFA has to say about it: http://www.offa.org/patluxgeninfo.html

And here is a site that talks about repair: http://www.michvet.com/library/surgery_patellar_luxation.asp Looks like the prognosis is pretty good, but the problem does have a genetic component, especially in large breeds, so breeding an affected animal would not be a good idea.

Skywalker, everything that Sunsilver has said applies to your dog. It will not correct itself and the dog will need surgery sometime in the future. Take him to an orthopedic surgeon and follow his advice. A dog that has this type of surgery would be DQ'd from participating in AKC shows, not sure how the SV views it, but I'd think they would take the same position. This dog is not a breeding candidate assuming he has been correctly diagnosed with patellar luxation. To be sure the dx is correct, you need to have him examined by an orthopedic surgeon.
